we will be closer than that later I think.. but most likely we will still come up short.. thats the story of our lives here in southeast texas.. always come up short on winter storms, then we get blasted with hurricanes in the summer.. at least we did get a little bit this year.. no accumulation but at least saw some flakes.. im not gonna completely write off the possibility for some later tonight but i dont see where the precip is gonna come from once it gets cold enough..

Well, technically, I'm in southern Hardin County, less than 2 miles away from the Jefferson County line... so I'm only 3 counties away from snow and 2 away from a mix.
Like that matters. It's still not here.

I'm thinking I should probably be doing something more productive right about now... staring at the radar isn't doing me any good. lol

RUC suggests rain changing to snow or a mix of rain/snow in Beaumont area after 10pm then precip ending an hour or two later. So you have a ways to go.

This was from Jeff at 2:15:

Moderate to heavy snow falling at College Station and just switched over at Huntsville.

Radar shows a large area of high reflectivity over Waller and Montgomery Counties and this is likely sleet/snow/rain mix with all snow ongoing NW of this line. Based on pictures below CLL has likely an inch or so on elevated surfaces. Also had reports of IP in Austin County in the last hour. Appears rain/snow line is from Austin to N of Brenham to between Huntsville and Conroe and inching southward.

Based on observations areas under the SN+ bands are quickly accumulating 1-3” and then it is melting as the snow slacks off.

Which begs the question... why are we here?

It must be the mosquitoes and the humidity.

Btw, we did get some accumulation here in December, so I shouldn't be complaining.

You guys south of DFW sure got lucky :D Good to see you guys got something out of this though.

Up here near DFW airport, there is a tiny flake or two flying in the air, but the ground is dried up already.

Geez, that long? And that short of a duration? I guess that's what was forecast as far as the changeover, but not the duration, at least from what I gathered from my local NWS. I am worried the precip will be gone by then, though.

It should change over a little sooner here than in Beaumont, but probably not by much.

The rain and the cooling process have begun in earnest here in Houston. If I am reading the radar right there is a lot of sleet beginning to mix in with the rain on the NW sides of Houston. Plenty of moisture to our W and SW so I think the only kickers in this scheme, at least for our area, is going to be how cold it can get and if the whole column is cooled down enough. Still don't see a need to argue with the situation as currently forecast for SE TX.

Still going as planned. Northern S\E Texas has the best shot and some snow elsewhere but it doesn't look to last too long except from Nw Harris county on north.. Shouldn't be disappointed models never really put out much for the immediate Houston area anyway, do hope for a couple of surprises though.

Looks like a little bit of the batch will be moving over San Antonio. It's going to be a close call whether it's snow, or not. I guess I'll just have to ask my friend little bit later what it is. Earlier it was rain, but the line moved a little further south.

*fingers crossed*

Reports of snow mixing in occasionally coming in from Montgomery County areas on the KHOU forum. That would be the yellow/orange areas I am seeing on radar. Snow has reached I-10 to our West. Whether it will stay that far ssouth is the question. If we get some more fill in on the radar I see no reason to doubt that most of the Houston metro area will see snow this evening.

Yep, looks like the models did a decent job, once they clued-in, and once again kudos to our pro mets for emphazing the main event for this storm would be south of DFW and north of Houston, with us getting a bit at the end (hopefully still). Since Saturday night, it was pretty apparent this was shaping-up to be a storm for Central Texas as opposed to say, Wichita Falls or Oklahoma.

Thank you pro mets for your patience and calling this one spot-on :-)

Areas west of I-35 should be getting light snow the next few hours then it looks to be over to scattered stuff. Precip shield is waning out west with Waco getting the longest duration left of it.

Yep, we're getting a good little snow flurry right now as a matter of fact!

P.S. My kudos as well to our pro mets who have calibrated our expectations accordingly and walked us through many hours of computer models! You guys are the best!!

Yes I will second these comments. We need to be kept in check every now and then. But I do think the pro mets like to secretly kick back every now and then and giggle while we wobble watch the radar to death lol :grrr: ... its going north, no its going south, no its going north, no its going south lol.. But in the end, at least with this system, it looks to have panned out how it was supposed to all along..

EDIT:
p.s. I like Nacogdoches chances for a few inches of accumulation.. that area up to palestine looks like it could catch some good snow
