Started snowing here early this morning in Austin. Pretty heavy for a while, then freezing rain then nada now snow again. Alot of the snow that came down earlier has melted. It's sticking again tho to roofs, cars and grass.

Down to 36F in W Houston. Reports coming in from far NW burbs and Waller county of snow with the snow sticking in Waller County. I still think we are on target with most of Houston seeing anywhere from .25" to 3"(far N burbs) depending on whether there is some convective banding.

Looks like the western end of the Houston metro is in transition period on a larger scale.

Also the last real hurrah of this storm is finishing up along I-35

Snow line is Tomball now...sleet Spring.

Just drove from Tomball to north of Magnolia...saw quarter size flakes north of Magnolia, and accumulations 10 miles north of Magnolia...snow changed to sleet at 249/2920.

This is a link to the current radar for Houston. It shows the R/S line still steadily moving in with the beginning of the changeover already moving into the W and NW suburbs.http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/?from=maproom&animation=falseSorry about the need to zoom in.

edit" News is showing snow falling 20 miles N of me now. Should be moving into Cypress area shortly.

Not bad for Waco! Too bad all that accumulation couldn't make it down past Austin.

Left office @ W. Loop & Bellaire at 3:45. It was rain with a few slushy drops mixed-in.
Took 59 thru downtown to north loop 610, then hopped on the Hardy Toll Road northbound. Rain the whole way until I hit BW8. Then some more of the slushy rain was mixed-in (I would not call it snow, it was mostly melted).
Got up to Rayford and sleet was mixing-in.
Went into Kroger at about 5:00 PM; came out at 5:20 to a mixure of sleet and snow. It's 35F up here now with a sleet/snow mix.

I am about to traverse the roadways from SE Houston to Humble. I will report when I get home.

still heavy snow here and still stuck at 33.8F. Snow isn't accumulating much here :( Not being greedy though. Still plenty of snow to come.

Currently on the phone with both kids. One is in Copperfield(West Rd. and Hwy 6)with snow falling. The other is heading out 290 from West Rd. with snow falling. We are currently having moderate sleet here at the house. Transitioning sooner than I expected. Just turned to a snow /sleet mix here in Spring Branch within a minute of typing the last line. BIG flakes!!

This will be the third time I have had at least two snow experiences in one Winter here in Houston.

Drove in the snow all day today. Went through heavy bands in Marlin, Calvert, Hearne and Bryan/College Station. The flakes were as big a 1/2 dollars when it was coming down at its hardest. Lot of fun seeing the white stuff. Back home in Tomball now, just light snow here right now.

It appears that the models performed very well with this event (GFS not NAM). The heavier precip will end across Houston in the next few hours. GFS had predicted by around 9pm. About right. But the main upper-level impulse will pass through late tonight/early tomorrow. Could be a few light flurries with it.

Any accumulating snow has so far been confined to the northern part of the county, ant temps remain above freezing there. Elsewhere, high temps and high dew points (well above freezing) resulted in a mostly rain event. As I mentioned last night, we really needed to have dew points starting out in the mid to upper 20s to have had a shot at widespread accumulations across Houston. The warm layer at the surface was just too much for the snow to overcome as it fell. The temperature can't drop if the dew point is in the 34-37 degree range. The airmass to our north just wasn't cold enough for advection alone to get us below freezing.

But I still think most of us (except near the coast) will see at least some snow fall in the next 5-8 hours. The later it falls, the lighter it'll be, though. Down to 38 at my house now, a sign that maybe I'll see some sleet soon. Maybe a bit of snow by 7pm to 8pm.

We've had light snow here in Cypress (Blackhorse Ranch) for the last half hour or so. Definitely not sticking, but the kids had fun running around in the flakes as they fell.
