Warmest day of the year so far

#1 Postby Scott Patterson » Wed Mar 03, 2010 10:19 pm

Today we officially hit a very spring like 44F, which was the warmest day of the year so far by a fair margin. The snow is starting to melt as well. This morning was 5F, so nights are still slightly chilly, but it feels like spring. A snowstorm is supposed to hit tomorrow though.

Bring on spring and more warm weather!

Looks like you and many of us may have your (our) wish, Scott. The Euro and GFS recent runs fail to show the blocking pattern that has been so prevalent. Tough for the die hard snow fans, but good for true Spring. :sun:

It's been well into the 50s all week where I live. Doesn't sound warm, but when the normal high is 34, it sure is.

LOL!! This winter has changed that concept a little for me. I'm starting to think warm when we get into the 60's. I was in shorts outside working the last few days when it wasn't raining.

I've been cold all winter long, but upper 70s, chilly? Come on, now. LOL

I've been in shorts the past few days. ok, ok.... it got quite chilly at the ballpark in the evening. Lesson learned. But still, that's the ballpark. You shouldn't go there without a jacket and a blanket.
Upper 70s feel good.

Today's high temps....this is quite a change from what this map would have looked like even a few weeks ago. Spring is on the verge of gaining the upper hand as there is less true arctic air to the north....and less snowcover nationwide...that would support additional arctic invasions.

High temps are still below normal in the southeast and Tennessee Valley, but gone are the 20 and 30 deg below normal temperatures like we saw this winter. The upper midwest is running well above normal, which must be a nice treat. Alot of the nation had temps pretty close to normal today.

Tonight's forecast low temps, on the other hand, feature almost no areas with below normal readings by more than a degree or 2....even in the southeast and florida except for a city or 2 here and there. I can't remember the last time the lower 48 had almost no significantly below normal low temps....at long last!

By Friday, I should be well into the 70s, maybe pushing 80! That is more typical of June or July than early April in my neck of the woods...

Officially 66F today. It was 2 degrees from the record high for March 30.

In addition, this morning's low here was an incredibly mild 30F which was the warmest night since October 24!
