The Official 2009-2010 Denver winter weather thread

My Dad's in Rye and last week he had a foot of snow. Yesterday/today he said he had an additional 15 inches. He did say that last week's snow evaporated very quickly.

March is a pretty snowy month in Colorado, isn't it?

March is Denver's snowiest month on average, and I bet it's the snowiest month on average for the majority of colorado. Snow in March is usually a lot heavier and I'd say shoveling 6" of March snow is equivalent to shoveling 18" of December snow. You can also make snowmen in March which just doesn't happen easily with the Winter snow because it is so dry.

The following table shows how much snow Denver gets on a per Month basis. March is the snowiest month followed by November. Interestingly enough, February is only the 6th snowiest month.

Looking down that list, you've had a lot of below normal snowfalls in recent years which I know contributed to your drought situations and the fires. It looks like this will be a good year for you overall - for once!

It's a good year for the front range, but ehh for the mid-mountains...

We've had over 80+ inches here in Broomfield, NW of Denver. That's above normal. Weird thing is...We haven't had much snow, except for the recent storm, since New Years.

Friday night is looking interesting.

I would agree that other than pre-new years it wasnt much of a winter until recently. Obviously the october 2 days blizzard help boost the totals. November wasnt all that remarkable if I remember correctly. and December featured snow, but it didnt especially snowy. I havent kept the best track since January, but I am thinking around downtown here we are around 80 inches' inches the season....I looked back at my posts of totals and came up with 82''...which includes the last 2 storms. That would be the snowiest year yet for me here in Denver. Even more than '06 which "seemed" snowier because it all came in dead of winter.

Some season totals so far. Not too bad, but as was mentioned this was definitely more of a fringe season with little snow in the dead of winter months. Tonight is going to be very borderline depending on the direction of the winds - if it's downsloping don't expect much. I think this one is a tough forecast.

woke up to a nice layer of fondant icing snow all over everything....thats what this wet april snow looks like to me. Looks 2-3 inches around my yard. Has 1 tulip and a pear tree full of blooms, hope they made it. If not I guess its not the end of the word as my service berry trees still have not bloomed and I have a yard full of tulips that have still not opened up.

From the AFD this afternoon. Who's ready for 50" of snow in May? All joking aside, it looks like some locations in the foothills could get hammered. My early prediciton is for places like Rollinsville to see a good 3' of snow.

May snow is pretty comon for most of Colorado, including Fort Collins.
