Those Gulf anomalies will no doubt flip back towards the middle of the range by the time May's data has come out given its warming quite nicely at the moment.

The Gulf has really warmed up in the last week, some big gains esp closer to the coast with the feed from the SE really raising surface temps.

I'm no expert, but this looks to be a scary season number wise.

The Gulf of Guinea factor if it cools as this forecast shows can cause the Sahel region to have plenty of moisture, causing less sal outbreaks as the ITCZ moves northward with the tropical wave parade inside Africa.

Pretty much the entire tropical basin is now warmer then it was at this stage in 2005, which is really rather extreme!

With the heat and full sun we've been getting, the local waters have to be heating up rather rapidly. Remember though, water temps alone do not an active season make.

Look at the cooler water just getting obliterated on the West Coast of FL a couple posts up

The GOM and NW Caribbean Sea should continue to warm rapidly in the coming week. Lots of dry air over those areas allowing the sun to do its magic....MGC

Yeah, the gulf has really warmed up in the past few days. Beached it up here in Sarasota, and noticed the temperature change over when I was swimming. The higher air temps and high pressure has really allowed it to climb.

It doesn't take much to warm up those waters especially because of the dry weather and the sun angle.

The Gulf will probabnly slow down its warming now, and in the lnog range the models are bringing back an east coast trough which allows slightly cooler NW winds down towards at least coastal Gulf region.

Basiclly,no change to the very warm anomalies on the MDR in this daily data graphic with cold anomalies mantaining north of 25N-30N,while the warmer ones stay south of that latitud.

Is that the anomalies or is that the actual temps in celsius?
