Strange that record highs even in the Deep South are not much different than those way up in the upper Midwest and even in northern Ontario...

Some pespective on the 35.8 in Ottawa, on average Ottawa has a high temp of greater than 35 degrees only 1 year in a hundred by the end of June yet this year we hit it before the end of May and smash the all time may record by three degrees (the record had stood since the 1940's). Impressive to say the least .

hey mark, yeah its pretty impressive indeed. i believe the record for May 26 for ottawa (macdonald-cartier int'l airport) was 31.1C set in 1965, so it was broken by over 4 degrees

Houston Hobby TX 96F tied 1998

Now strangely enough, it did not feel that hot today. Drier air must be the reason for that.

tireman, it actually was revised to 97F so even hotter, you are right, the dewpoints did fall briefly to the lower 60s at the time of the high temperature, this morning the dew points are back up to near 70F
