We need something to keep us going around here with the tropics so dead right now.

This what I went by..SSM/I Pass by MWatkins The SSM/I pass at around 1230Z reveals that there is a surface low...and it's north of the overnight estimates. The TPC tracks just finished running and the position fix of 23.7 64.0 seems just about right.. so i guess there is a low after all :o

If recons goes tommorow they will clarify all of this about where a center may be.

But you need to be west of 60W....that's where the "low" is.

QuickScat

#29 Postby wxman57 » Mon Aug 11, 2003 11:43 am

Steve's right, that QuickSCAT image posted earlier is way east of the upper low/disturbance. It's at 65W not 55W. Still, don't expect to see much on QuickSCAT for another few days.

There is no bowing required. Predicting the weather/development in the tropics is very humbling. I've been humbled all year :( 91L is getting shear from the NW whilst trying to get an LCC going. Still Good rotation in the cloud mass. I actually do believe there will be something for recon tomorrow. Seems to me this could be headed for hurricane alley. But I'm not gonna guess until we get a good LCC. Cheers!!

I thought we already establised that the National Hurricane Center says, "an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter Aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system on Tuesday (in this case), if necessary"... it means that they are planning a trip into the system, if it isn't worth sending up tomorrow, they will cancel the flight.

It seems that the flights are usually scheduled for 2:00 PM Eastern (1800Z), as was the case with Invest 90L.
