FLORIDA UPDATE
Tue Jun 15 2010
Several triple digit readings for highs again today, including Jacksonville 102F, and 101F at both Marianna and Winter Haven.
The cool spot was 69F at Crestview this morning.
10pm temps ranged from 88F at Key West Naval Air Station on Boca Chica
to 78F at Orlando International which reached 98F for a record high today before a thunderstorm near 4pm dropped late day temperatures, but only produced 0.14inches of rain at the airport.
That thunderstorm produced a lightning strike that ignited a fire in a portion of the new Amway Center's roof in downtown Orlando near 4pm ( the new house of the Orlando Magic basketball club next season)

So what happened to the rainy season? Much of eastern Dade has just been bone-dry in terms of precipitation for almost 2 weeks now. That is odd for June.

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Hot; start of rainy season
Look at all of the Florida peninsula just bombing out with convection today *except* the SE coast. I hate when that happens, and it's been happening every day for the last week and a half. There wasn't a cloud in the sky all day long over here. Horrible. You need that thunderstorm cool-off, or else it's just brutal.
Cloudless sky in February = nice
Cloudless sky in June = disgusting

77% humidity & 84 degrees at 11pm. Heat indexes have been 100+ for days. Last week thunderstorms popped to the north and south but mainly missed us here in Jensen Beach. This week...little to nothing along the east coast. I planted some baby palms about a month ago with hopes that the "rainy season" help them along. The poor little things are struggling horribly even with my efforts to keep them going.

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Hot; start of rainy season
I'm not even sniffing any rain here by the coast. We are in this easterly flow pattern and it seems to just get stronger.
Where are the AM showers and thunderstorms? You'd think that in such a pattern the E coast would be likely to see those....but no.....

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Hot; start of rainy season
With June averaging the highest monthly rainfall for the entire year, it has been hit or miss in terms of precip in south florida so far this month.
Here in Fort Lauderdale, we haven't had more than a Trace of rain since June 7th.....that is very unusual.
Month-to-date (as of 6/19), the airport (FLL) has had 2.32" of rain....normally by June 19th, we would have seen 6.42". For the entire month, Fort Lauderdale averages 10.01" of rain...that gives us 10 days to get 7.7" if we are to end the month on average!
