That is an image which truly imprints the reality of this oil spill in one's mind. Who would ever imagine translucent waves with oil particles rolling towards the shore? A perfectly timed shot, and I thank you x-y-no for sharing it with us.

Having grown up in the waves along the Gulf coast, that picture literally turns my stomach, as it should anyone's. Truly sad and maddening!

*snip* Abiotic oil
Gulf Oil Spill ‘Could Go Years’ If Not Dealt With
by F. William Engdahl*

The Obama Administration and senior BP officials are frantically working not to stop the world’s worst oil disaster, but to hide the true extent of the actual ecological catastrophe. Senior researchers tell us that the BP drilling hit one of the oil migration channels and that the leakage could continue for years unless decisive steps are undertaken, something that seems far from the present strategy.

I have seen similiar images, perhaps even this one, from the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area a week ago (give or take a few days).

I'm sorry, but that guy is a crackpot. There's no good evidence for this "abiogenic deep origin of petroleum." None. Let alone any good evidence that this well has contacted a "migration channel."

And while I'm sure BP very much would like to conceal the size of the disaster (I think that's why they're busy pumping dispersant at depth, to keep as much oil submerged as they can) I'm even more sure they're desperate to stop the leak.

Finally, even if this well were drilled into one of Dr. Kutcherov's mythical migration channels, that in no way affects the basic functioning of the "relief well" procedure, which is now the only remaining way to plug this leak.

There really are a lot of nutball theories floating around. My favorite thus far is the one about the alleged super-volcano (which of course ignores the fact that geologically speaking the GoM is one of the quietest places on Earth).

If there was a supervolcano under us and it erupts, we are all toast.  Yes, the Gulf of Mexico is rather stable with earthquakes here and there.

When You Boycott BP Gas Stations, BP Can Profit
By Ben Popken on June 14, 2010 1:51 PM 0 views
(Infrogmation)
You need gas. On the right is a BP. On the left is a supermarket gas station. Which do you choose, and why? If you skip the BP to go to the other, you might actually be putting more cash in BP's stained pockets.

Like this story? Check out, BP Gulf-Sized Spilling Occurs In Nigeria Annually, But Nobody Cares.

Your corner BP station is mainly just a brand, a licensed franchise owned by a local businessman. The fuel that comes out of the pumps might have been bought from a totally different company. Only right before it gets put on the truck for delivery is the special BP sauce, additives, added.

However, if you opt for another place, like a supermarket gas-station, they could be a wholly-owned BP subsidiary, with BP getting all the cash. According toFacebook group Boycott BP these include Castrol, Arco, Aral, am/pm, Amoco, Wild Bean Cafe and Safeway gas.

This is not to say you shouldn't choose a different gas station if the BP one makes you squeamish. Just bear in mind that doing so is a political act, one that has deals damage to BP's brand in the long-term, rather than having direct financial impact on BP. No, the immediate business loss will be most acutely felt by the local businessman. Over the years, that same guy could own the same stations, and change it from being a Shell, an Exxon, or a Sunoco, depending on who's got the best deal.

Then again, if no one is buying BP gas, do you think many new gas station owners are going to be eager to sign up for a BP franchise? Which would mean a loss of future franchise fee income for BP, and that will end up hurting their bottom line. Just not today.

Please keep in mind that this link is to a nutball site and I don't advocate their silly views.

Gulf oil volcano---It's far, FAR worse than you imagined--What is and what will be.

This is just one of many such nutball theories that are floating around and will continue to circulate until the well is plugged.

Except, of course, for that little incident 65 million years ago that wiped out the dinosaurs.

OMG.. I just heard BP is planning on drilling 2 miles down and 6-8 miles sideways in the Arctic!! This is rediculous and you can bet the whole industry is ready to follow along.. Those irresponsible creeeps should not be allowed to do so until they can prove they can handle 1 mile in the gulf. The dang politicians and executives are clearly keeping the public out of the loop.. :x

In BP's defense, killing a wild well on land is much easier than killing a wild well at 5000 feet underwater. It's not the depth of the reservoir or overall length of the well that's the problem, it's the location of the wellhead.
