It was nice to get a break from this for a while. Was back in Oklahoma for a few days and they were all complaining about the humidity - it was humid for there, but definitely felt much nicer for me
The cruise portion was fun as well, especially since it meant I was out of the area before all the flooding started

My poor little lawn would love to come and visit! Not a drop of precipitation has fallen here in days. Lots of thunder about over the weekend. Everything missed me. Currently 86 degrees, 70% humidity, heat index = 95 degrees.
Happy Summer to all.

cbs4 forecast:
SCATTERED SHOWERS HAVE BEEN SWEEPING ACROSS SOUTH FLORIDA ALONG THE EASTERLY BREEZE. HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS DUE TO THE STRONG ONSHORE FLOW. A TROPICAL WAVE MOVING ACROSS THE CENTRAL CARIBBEAN HAS THE MEDIUM POTENTAIL TO DEVELOP INTO A TROPICAL CYCLONE AS IT MOVES WEST-NORTH-WEST. THE MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS WAVE WILL INCREASE OUR CHANCE FOR STORMS LATE WEEK INTO THE WEEKEND.

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Hot; start of rainy season
Rainy season = epic fail. I haven't seen the numbers for Miami-Dade, but we *must* be way below normal for June in terms of rainfall. This is terrible, I can't take much more of it.
I don't really see much chance of catching up in the next few days, either. NWS Miami keeps wanting to bump up the POPS, then they just end up reducing them way back down again.
Without summer rains, the weather is just intolerable, IMO.

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Hot; start of rainy season
No rain other than the occasional fast-moving sprinkle. I swear we're going to have to wait until we get an impact from a tropical system of some kind in order to get any real measurable rain.
We had that one weekend several weeks ago now, with thunderstorms. That seems to have been about it for our so-called "rainy month" of June.

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Hot; start of rainy season
.CLIMATE...THE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AT TAMPA HAS REACHED 90
DEGREES OR BETTER EVERY DAY SINCE JUNE 3RD. THEY WILL LIKELY
REACH 90 OR BETTER TODAY AND MONDAY...AND WILL BE CLOSE ON
TUESDAY AS WELL.
AS OF YESTERDAY...TAMPA HAS GONE 24 DAYS WITH A HIGH OF 90 OR
BETTER...WHICH RANKS 14TH FOR CONSECUTIVE DAYS ABOVE 90 DEGREES.
IF THE AIRPORT REACHES 90 OR BETTER TODAY AND MONDAY...THEY WILL
MOVE INTO THE TOP 10 AT NUMBER 8...SHARED WITH 4 OTHER YEARS. WE
STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO TO MAKE IT TO THE NUMBER 1 SLOT. IN
1992...THE TEMPERATURE REACHED OR EXCEEDED 90 DEGREES FOR 36 DAYS
IN A ROW BEGINNING ON JUNE 30TH AND ENDING ON AUGUST 4TH.
NOT SURPRISINGLY...RAINFALL DURING THAT TIME IN 1992 WAS WELL
BELOW NORMAL WITH ONLY 4.47 INCHES DURING THE 34 DAY PERIOD. THE
AVERAGE RAINFALL FOR THAT 34 DAY PERIOD IS 7.61 INCHES.
RAINFALL FOR THE 24 DAYS ENDING YESTERDAY AT TAMPA INTERNATIONAL
IS ALSO BELOW NORMAL AT 3.27 INCHES. THE AVERAGE RAINFALL FOR
THIS 24 DAY PERIOD IS 4.41 INCHES.
Yep, Hot with spotty rains..

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Hot; start of rainy season
I know we are under easterly flow, which always lowers our rain chances...but the stupid thing is, every time I look at the radar, I see plenty of scattered showers and spotty thunderstorms offshore. Thing is, they always seem to dissipate before reaching the coast. Why is that?

I was watching the radar closely this weekend too, and was praying for some of those showers to make it to dry land, but to no avail! Saturday I got a quick 5 minute downpour and that was it! These dry conditions also enhance the bug problems! I have a major chinch bug situation in my back yard now! Usually I use a granular pesticide, but since we haven't been getting any rain to activate it, I switched to the liquid pesticide. I sprayed 1nce and about to spray a 2nd time because theyr'e still there killing my grass! Starting 2day, I think I'll try rain-dancing in my back yard!

MIA, FLL, PBIA all recorded below normal rainfall for the month of June. This is the 2nd month we have had below rainfall.

Re: Florida Weather Thread: Hot; start of rainy season
If it has seemed really hot lately — even for Southwest Florida — there’s an explanation:
The National Weather Service reports this May and June have been the hottest here since record-keeping began in 1902.
“I would believe that in a heartbeat,” said Fort Myers meteorologist Dave Roberts.
The May-June average temperature of 83.1 — factoring each day’s high and low temperatures — snapped the previous May-June record of 82.5 set in 1981. The two-month mark was set without any single-day or single-month records, with this May and June individually being the second-warmest on record.
It was just relentless heat day after day. Every day in June reaches at least 90 with a daily average of 85.4, and highs from 94 to 98 from June 4 through 26.
National Weather Service meteorologist Paul Close said the reason is a high-pressure system that was parked over the area.
“It’s been suppressing some of the thunderstorms,” Close said.
Less rain and fewer clouds are a hot combination. The average June rainfall in Fort Myers is 9.77 inches; this year, 8.52 inches were recorded after Wednesday’s downpours.
Relief is here, though, with Wednesday’s widespread storms evidence.
“The high has been pushed a little south,” Close said.
That means regular rainfall is on the way.
“The relief is rain and clouds,” WINK-TV meteorologist Scott Zedeker wrote in an e-mail. “We are getting that now as the rainy season just gets kick-started.”

With that high pressure in control for so long you have got to wonder if it will stick around for the heart of the hurricane season and steer hurricanes into Florida.. I know South Florida had a dry May and that Jim Lushines theory applies this year

The POPS *were* 60% for today, now I wake up and find they've been downgraded to 50%. I bet you in a couple hours they'll go down to 40% or even 30%.....lol.....because that's the way this summer has gone.

As predicted, they are down to 40% for today......and *nothing* on the radar on the mainland. Watch them go to 30%.
