Yeah, but the city of New Orleans isn't big enough for all her kids.

This sounds like a great reason to visit New Orleans!

I'm sure I'll be there quite a few times before then!

8-) put me down as likely... only work could stop me!

"likely meet at a bar or restaurant" better just change that to "meet in a bar" for SG's sake cause she'll never make it to a restaurant first. Btw are northerners welcome at this "ahem" get together??

Ok, it was brought to my attention last night that NOLA is very expensive and we might get more bang for our buck if we had the meetup elsewhere. And maybe more people. But I also realize that NOLA is kind of in between Texas and Florida, so the suggestion made, Galveston, would be pretty far for those in and near Florida. Btw, the person who suggested Galveston isn't in Texas and it doesn't make him any closer, but was just thinking economically. Either place would be a blast!

Anyway, I said I'd bring it up to get thoughts.

Yeah but there's no place that's as much fun as NO. Start saving and find roommates. I'm not working these days and i'll scrimp and save to be able to afford the hotel.

I know it's expensive, but I'd much rather go to New Orleans than anywhere else.

Branch outside the quarter, there are MUCH cheaper hotels out there. I know it's not ideal, but if you can't afford it, it'd be better than NOT coming.

This appears to be the cheapest hotel in the French Quarter, $109-119 a night. Might still be a bit pricey for some, but it's a lot better than $200+ a night at the other places.

Thanks Steagle for the link.

Most of these hotels shouldn't charge you when you book so you could always cancel if something better comes up, but I noticed some other hotels filling up for that date, so you might want to book sooner rather than later(rates generally seem to go UP as a date approaches in most cases because of less space, barring something unexpected).
