That's what was coming to mind for me, as a relative newb at this - impression I get is for the month of June, Alex is pretty memorable. How about just Cat-1 storms in general (assuming it remains classified as a Cat-1) - is this one for the record books or at least "Top 10" type storm as well?

Oh without a doubt its got a cracking ole presentation and Dvorak raw numbers are now closer to 6.0 which is about low end 4 higher end 3 type range on the Sat.estimates...

ps, EJ, Celia really should win storm of the month, afterall it was a category-5 Annular system, as pretty as this one is, Celia destroys Alex in terms of being stunning :wink:


Celia all the way and Derby would still trump Alex at the moment

A few storms that Alex is stronger than. This should give you an example of how strong Alex is and what we're dealing with here.

Sorry, but not even close to 2005. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, 2005 was already
further along than we are now. You need to keep in mind that 2005 was a rarity.

And after Alex, there's no indication at all that there's going to be another storm
anytime soon.

There wasn't a La Nina in 2005. I think it was 2007 (when we had Dean and Felix).

Looks as if Brownsville will miss out on sustained hurricane force winds

Yeah, 2004 and 2005 was only neutral. 2008 too. It appears Neutral seasons produce the most storms, followed by La Nina years and then El Nino years. (Well, for the Atlantic).

I wonder if the Atlantic will see a "Celia like" Cat 5 this season. I'm thinking we squeeze out at least one or one that is very close to it. Most of the majors will probably be Cat 3s and 4s but who knows what's going to happen.

Yes...gust to 60-65 mph maybe...looks like storm surge won't get there (7 feet+) in South Padre...but not sure.
I just hope I get some rain here in N. Houston...bone dry.

2005 was neutral. It was El Nino the first 3 months and then headed towards La Nina but never made it.

It can't be a cat 1. There's no way. Just hope recon gets some good readings before it starts to weaken.

Some steady sprinkles in Cypress for about two hours and some wind. Now it's completely still and dry. Need that rain!
