Maybe post analysis will give Alex a higher peak strength, even a lower pressure, possibly tying Audrey. Certainly if Alex had the same presentation out in the open Atlantic without recon access than it would likely be a major hurricane based on Dvorak estimates.

I can't tell from the recon pages...are they going to be able to make another pass through the NE eyewall?

Seems like there's finally a clearing in the eye. Some sign of intensification.

Isn't it strange that Alex almost seems to be purposely slowly down in order to allow a bit more intensification prior to landfall. The 948mb pressure was very close to tying Audrey but it is officially July in UTC time so Alex will have to settle for the second strongest June hurricane missing by 2 millibars.

OK! Gotcha. Actually, given that I'm in the upper 700s and Cat 5 appears to start with 1000, I think I'm about to undergo some RI myself. :D

What is that blob off the Yucatan, Alex trying to spin off a potential little sister Bonnie?

I could realistically see this being upgraded to 100 knots right before landfall given how rapidly the presentation has increased....

The Rio Grande Valley is very very lucky that this didn't make landfall 30 miles or so further north.

Yep, mind you thats like seeing an October hurricane get down to 884mbs, 2mbs away from the record...thats how exceptional 948mbs is for a June Hurricane, even for July there aren't that many hurricanes that can compare really...

Look at the huge blow-up over the western part of the Yucatan? Is that from Alex?

July's record is 929mb by Emily (which beat a week old 930mb record by Dennis) in 2005. Not sure what the record was before 2005 for July.

I know for August the record is 899mb, for September 888mb, for October 882mb and for November 915mb.

Just some convection. Probably going to get sucked up into Alex rather than growing to Bonnie.

It's getting awfully "chatty" in here. Let's keep the posts to some pertinent things, and some of the comments WRT J.B., etc., are out of line at this point!
