Radar would appear to be a Major Hurricane to me. BTW, eye is 4 miles from land based on radar. :D

So HS probably 10-20 mins to go before landfall then, I was thinking of going to bed but I may as well stay up to watch it make landfall now...

Motion looks like a pretty solid WSW now though at this stage its not going to make much of a difference with the eyewall coming ashore.

I'm still in awe right now when I look the satellite and at the calendar....

but get all this rain away from the gulf coast before 4th of July weekend! :flag:

One good note is Alex missed the more populated areas to the north and south..still prayers go out to those being hammered right now

The latest VDM showed a CLOSED eyewall this time. At 947 mb, this could tie Audrey if adjusted for little winds!!

jaxfladude wrote:I truly hope that Alex-it really does suck for those that all have to deal with Alex, I feel for them-is the worst for this season.
Prayers to all!

May all the other named TS/'Canes be "Fish" and not directly and negatively impact any landmass of any kind!
In short:
Season-cancel after Alex is no more.

You edited your post to say that? It's funny, right when the last VDM came out stating Alex had a pressure of 947 mb, you made that edit  .

I certainly do hope they were warned well and prepared! Just imagine, if this thing had a few more hours over water, we'd be looking at a high end Cat 2 or Cat 3 easily.

It's a good thing it didn't develop a surface circulation earlier while over the Caribbean or near the Lesser Antilles.

Wow that presentation is just surreal, I'd be impressed by a hurricane in the W.Gulf that looked like that in August/September...still a little hard to believe this is only at 85kts though!

La Yegua looks like its going to take a direct hit by the eye itself, I'd imagine any chasers there would be happy with that occuring...System moving WSW as backed up by recon.

That northwest shear and dry air on monday probably kept Alex from becoming a major. Wow.

Based on Google Earth, it looks like the population of La Yegua is about 1,000.

Whoops! Allison was never even close to becoming a hurricane. It was a TD when it did most of the damage.

Looks to be pretty much uninhabitated, thank goodness...that is going to be overwhelmed like the Bolivar Peninsula...

Thanks. La Yegua will have some more history to add to their books after Alex.

I was also wondering if there are any weather station reporting sites around the landfall area? Webcams too.

Not that I could find, the first one is like 100 miles or more inland. That population is a pure guess, for all I know it might be a ghost town.
