It was stifling today and we had 2 huge gully-washers come through today. That's because I watered the lawn this morning...

WOW! We had some SEVERE weather blow through the Philadelphia/Southern New Jersey area this afternoon. There were 3 huge storms that barrelled south, the one furthest east looked like a big blood drop on the dopplar radar.

Lots of power outages, trees down, a roof torn off a daycare center in Delaware County, PA. The top of a young maple tree in our front yard was ripped off. There's a big gaping hole one one side of the tree. I don't know if we'll keep it or not. Marty saw it get ripped off - it wasn't lightning.

I was in Norriton yesterday PM and it poured, when I got home in Blue Bell it looked like nothing happened. When I went to work in Philly what a mess! Limbs, lots of water everywhere!

I have a better youtube posted in the MLB thread but here is another youtube I found of the game yesterday:

There's another good video there that you can select that shows the tarp blowing off and carrying someone. What a storm!

I'm wishing for some of those severe thunderstorm warnings that are going on now in the Plains.

The satelite image of the East Coast clearly shows where the high pressure is. The front over the Midwest is totally blocked and you can see the circulation of the clouds around the high.

Well I had to leave work yesterday, the power went out at noon and didn't come back on until 9PM because of a blown transformer, or at least that's what PECO told us, grrrr. Couldn't go to the second job either because I had to make sure that the hubby was ok, sigh, and it went up to 103!!!!!! It was a mess!

On another note, this is not in the east of PA, but I got this notice yesterday about the other part of PA, I expect it to come here too because it hasn't rained in quite a while!!!

Date&Time:2010-07-07 16:01:16 [UTC]
Continent:North-America
Country:USA
State/Prov.:State of Pennsylvania,

Not confirmed information!

Description:
With the recent heat and lack of precipitation, there has been a drought emergency declared for some Pennsylvania counties including Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, and Columbia counties. Lycoming county could be next to be included in the emergency if there is no precipitation soon. In the past year Pennsylvania receive average rainfall, but some areas of Pennsylvania have received less than half of the average rainfall for this month which can have a huge effect. Some areas of Pennsylvania have had below average rainfall for 5 months straight. "The U.S. Geological survey takes a look at rainfall, reservoir levels, river levels and well levels to determine if drought factors are occurring," Aaron Tyburski, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in State College said. "I believe with the way the rainfall is going and other factors that the other counties should follow suit. There is potential for other areas to be added if we continue to be dry." With the emergency, comes restrictions on water usage; however, there have been no direct orders for the residents of Pennsylvania as of yet.
