Re: Mid Atlantic Weather 2010
I'm glad that the power finally came back on.
I believe that we were our monthly precipitation average in June and THAT was a hot month. We had some heavy duty storms throughout the month, but a lot of it was runoff. We need a couple of good days of soaking rain.
I hope that it doesn't get to the point where we are in a drought situation.

Glad you are all getting some rain, Steph! We actually had some storms roll through last evening
that dropped quite a bit of much-needed rain on our dry, brown and crunchy lawns and gardens!

I'm glad that you received rain as well. Summer can be really tough.
It looks like we did get a little bit more overnight. My rain gauge had .75 inches of rain late yesterday. Maybe an inch of rain total. We do have a chance of thundershowers during the course of the week.

Re: Mid Atlantic Weather 2010
Fortunately, we had some thunderstorms roll through at around 4:00 am this morning. It's going to be disgustingly hot this weekend - mid 90's and high humidity! YUCK!

Re: Mid Atlantic Weather 2010
the most amazing/uncomfortable thing about this summer for me has been the consistently warm overnight temps. I live out in the country, away from water with sandy soils that dont hold moisture so summer nights it usually cools off. This summer we have had countless nights where the low temp hasnt gotten below 75 and several lows of around 80. Steamy!

Re: Mid Atlantic Weather 2010
More storms this morning, right back to hot and humid.
This is definitely the worst summer since 99 at this point. Granted rain was unheard of in June-August 1999.

It's amazing, isn't it? And to think that we barely had a summer last year - the heat didn't crank up until now and stayed for about a month. Normally we would have a "heat wave" when the temps hit 90 or above, for a few days, then back to the mid to upper 80's. The temps have been in the 90's consistently with no end in sight.
Okay Mid Atlantic people, which would you prefer, this past winter of 70+ inches of snow or this perpetual heat wave? - Actually, I'm going to start a poll..
Cat 5 - yes, THANKFULLY, we have been getting rain when we most need it. We just had another thundershower roll through here not too long ago.

I would rather have the snow, easier to get warmer than it is to get cooler!!!

Actually, I prefer the heat because I hate driving in snow. However, I wouldn't mind the heat being turned down a notch or two...

Today's worst is over; still really hot tomorrow
"Thankfully the District's fourth 100-degree afternoon of 2010 has come to a close. All three area airports set record highs today as the mercury neared or surpassed triple digit levels across the region with heat indices up to 110. Here are the actuals:
Reagan National: 101
Dulles: 99
BWI: 100
If you thought it was bad here, it was worse to our southeast. Richmond and Norfolk hit 105, both records."

AAAHHHH! BIG thunderstorms ripped through the area. From the severe weather warnings issued by the NWS this afternoon they stretched from VA to NY. Besides the wonderful rain they left it's now 71 degrees outside!
Windows are open, LOVING the fresh, cool air.

Took 2 weeks to get the humidity out of this house so there is NO way I'm opening the windows till fall! And it's a beautiful 76 degrees with a heat index of 80, lowest in 2 weeks. However enjoy tonight, headed back to the mid to upper 90's by wednesday. Where's the snow?
