Tropical Wave Approaching Windward Islands

#1 Postby rockyman » Tue Jul 13, 2010 8:35 am

The wave at 52W (that possibly is the spark for SW Caribbean model development this weekend) is flaring up a little this morning. NHC is so far unimpressed:

TROPICAL WAVE IS ALONG 51W/52W S OF 16N MOVING W 15-20 KT. WAVE
IS SUPPRESSED AND MASKED DUE TO A DRY SAHARAN AIR LAYER ACROSS
THE TROPICAL ATLC KEEPING CONVECTION TO A MINIMUM AND RESTRICTED
TO THE ITCZ. SCATTERED MODERATE/ISOLATED STRONG CONVECTION IS
FROM 7N-11N BETWEEN 49W-54W.

Shear is less than 10knots:

There is a pinwheel to the ESE of the Windwards. Something to watch this time of year. 8-)

The wave at 52W is certainly healthy looking. I think it bears watching. (Please, no “bears watching” jokes. Methinks they’ve been quite enough of those!)
EDIT (11 hours later) Wave looks like crap now.
