Yeah, unfortunately that's kind of the way it is. On the other hand, it does get the good surf as well (though I'm not into surfing so much)

My other parent is from Pangasinan - hopefully the rain won't be causing too much an issue as the typhoon heads over that area

Hope everyone else will be checking in to let us know they are safe.

The NRL is naming another invest right on the heels of Conson as 96W...Have to watch and see if this will be a legit, separate storm or if it's just flaring up because of conditions from Conson.

Hope you are all ok?

This is my first post but been reading since last year :D

Thank you everyone for the very informative posts.

I'm from the Philippines, living in south Metro Manila. I was mostly awake last night due the blackout and my 2 year old son who kept waking up to listen to the howling wind :D Yep, last night was really a noisy one, not much rain. Wind started picking up around 11 pm local time and did not let up until 5 am :double:

Still went to the office today though it was an adventure! Lots of trees fell, signages went flying and to cap it all off, the very big special crane being used to build the Skyway toppled over on the south super highway! I'm sure the pics will be all over the news already.

Once again, thanks to all!

Welcome and thank you so much for checking in and telling us about the after-effects. Sounds like you had a scary night! I'll bet today will be a rough day with the little one. I know what that's like having kids that can't sleep because of the noise. No fun! :) Please stick around...Not all of us here are professional meteorologists and some of us come here for comfort, reassurance, or the fascination of tracking storms. I've learned a lot just by hanging around and reading.

I know some of you guys were getting aggravated about the storm alerts not being raised fast enough. Looks like PAGASA is taking some heat over this: http://www.gmanews.tv/story/196011/aqui ... g-briefing

I guess it's another lesson in not discounting a storm's potential or track. From everything I'm reading, Manila is a mess today.
