I wish the news was better :(

I forgot to say - on the very off chance anyone wants our coporate rate at a hotel, we'd have to book this really soon....

I forgot to reply again.

Thanks for all your help, sunny. I don't know what to do either. I definitely think we need more input from EVERYONE who is thinking about attending. I really hate changing it, since we already made a decision, but if everyone is ok with that, it's fine with me. I did some checking in the spring (after Mardi Gras) and it wasn't any cheaper, at least at the hotels I checked. Some were even higher! I was checking mid-March.

We need more input. How flexible is everyone? Do you prefer NOLA? What about Pensacola? Somewhere else?
If everyone can pay the $139/night for the hotel that sunny mentioned, that actually doesn't sound like a bad deal. Perhaps she can post more information about it, but I believe it's a nice hotel right in the heart of things in the FQ. No cab fees and walking distance from everything. And we don't have to change the date/location.

Hey guys, if you haven't already, click on "Subscribe topic" in the top left of this thread and you'll be notified via email when there's a new post. That way everyone can try and keep up a little better.

Quick question for Jack, on the Hazmat training, I'm in Emergency Management and already have multiple courses, work experience, etc in hazmat....would there be any other training required? I'm trained in most everything from hazmat to terrorist control to NIMMS 700, 800 and preparing to take the 920-series now so think I qualify for cleanup but thought I'd ask.

I'm not sure, Dave. My connection to the subject is a sub-contractor and they are requiring the 24 or 40 hour Hazwoper course. They are only hiring locals.

I would hate to cast a location vote then not be able to attend for whatever reason..but I sure like NOLA. :) Sunny, would that be the Holiday Inn on Royal for $139?

I helped a friend out at her employment agency when they first started looking for workers. You must have the 40 hour hazwoper certification.

And Jack..that holiday inn is the one quite a few of us stayed at last time. Perfect location! As of right now the holiday inn rooms on royal are $144/night + tax. I figured in 2 adults per room for 2 nights. If you double up that's $72/night + tax.

I'll make it simple from my side...I'm flexible and can go anywhere from Maine around to the state of Washington, just give me time to get there.....and anytime of the year (stay away from the north in winter unless you want to see snow).

Alright guys, we really need input from ya'll. Do we go ahead with the meeting in October as planned, or put it off til the spring in March or April? It may be somewhat cheaper to go then, and of course people would have more time to save up money, but I'm down with October too. Please we need some opinions on this...

I am flexible, but I think March or April may be a better time and give us a real chance to put something together. With all the pro-mets we have, if some were willing and others wanted it we could set up some presentations, etc. Just thinking out loud.

I really, really want to go and meet up with ya'll but October is out for me. Having disc removal and spinal fusion surgery on the 6th so I will be out of commission on the 16th. I vote for March and I will commit to a spring date.
Besides October is still cane season. NOLA may be in the path a few time between now and then. But If you all have to meet in Oct. I will wait for the next get together.

For personal reasons and the fact that time is short, I'm going to jump on the March bandwagon.

March or April is fine with me and I like Davids suggestion about asking the pro mets to join us if possible. Up to you'all, just let me know.

I think this was just to be an informal gathering unless you want to organize it into something else. :D :D

I'm not thinking anything super fancy, but getting to meet a few of the pro-mets, especially if they were presenting something of interest might be a bigger draw. Just an idea.

If we can pull together some pro-mets or even grad students, we might be able to call it a conference instead of a meetup. If we decide to go that way, I can do scheduling and itinerary since I have quite a bit of experience with it.

I may have a problem being there in March however. I have a trip or two partially planned for Seattle either in January or in April, and I don't know how many trips I can handle in one semester at a University. Ill know more obviously in the months to come, and i'll make every effort to make it.

Yeah, it's already PAST the original date and it seemed to fly right by.

Is everyone still thinking NOLA or are there any other suggestions?
