This season may be disappointing, but we're ahead of 1998 which peaked late. I expect the same for this season.

Looking at the satellite, not sure if I agree with the downgrade, unless it has been a tropical storm for the last 6-8 hours or so which is certainly possible. It probably peaked around 0600Z (85 kt/979mb is my guess - pressure a bit higher due to its then-small core), dropped a bit then after 0900Z unraveled in the next 6 hours.

I don't think shear played a role as much as dry air did. Shear was never ideal even last night when Danielle took off.

I thought it'd be interesting to note that today marks the formation of 1998's Hurricane Danielle. Just as sort of a gauge.

Danielle will probably regain hurricane status tonight, starting to ramp up once again. We'll see what happens.

I think Bermuda may well have one to deal with, I suspect the models may shift ust a touch further west soon.

At the very least the cone shall remain over Bermuda for a little while yet, though they are used to the threat of big major hurricanes to be fair.

As for its strength, seems to be starting to try and reorganise after weakening quite alot, lets see if the trend continues.

Poor Bermuda might be hit or nearly hit twice with both Danielle and Earl, however, both tracks remain to be seen. I think it's a safe bet that Danielle will cross 60W as a large hurricane which puts Bermuda in danger. Even if they do not get hit directly, they could deal with heavy squalls, gusty winds, very high waves, and more. The wave and rip current threat will apply up and down the east coast.

Yeah there is enough risk now for them to certainly take it seriously, of course Bermuda strike is still something of a needle in a haystack situation but the tracks are close enough to suggest it warrants attention.

What are the chances this bad girl strikes the Canadian Maritimes?

One thing to wonder is if Danielle didn't strengthen so much last night, would it have sucked in the dry air this morning?

I agree, here in SW New Brunswick I feel rather safe (for now). If however I lived anywhere in Nova Scotia (especially the Eastern half), I'd be having second thoughts by now. Still no need to panic, but I'd still be watching this one with great interest.

Wow well the 18z certainly throws out an extreme but interesting solution...betting thats not happened too many times in history though so for now not sure its a likely solution.

Still if it were to come off Danielle may well need close watching, esp if it does restrengthen like forecasted. I personally think it may well get back to hurricane status tonight providing it doesn't gulp in more dry air but we will see!

When was the last time the Northeast even faced a serious hurricane threat, let alone a landfall? I don't remember Isabel ever expecting to hit north of Delaware Bay...

I remember places north of Delaware Bay in the cone, the cone actually showed it going straight for NYC at one point.
