I'm afraid the southern eyewall is going to impact the very northern Islands, Barbuda, Antigua and Anguilla just as the convection is wrapping fully around the center.

Patti,

Glad to see you are still able to post so internet must still be up. Hope your car is OK and that you remain safe. It does appear that it will be passing to your North !!!!

good morning
it was not a bad night at all. the wind is high..hardly hurricane force winds though. a big tree branch is banging on my roof. my rain gauge says 1 inch fell. the garden looks in good shape.. even the banana tree is standing and they always go down in wind.
is it going to get worse later?
hope the rest of my Caribbean friends are safe!

Good morning. Here in PR, we are waiting for ther first band of showers and wind that is now in the Virgin Islands. As of 5 AM advisory, the eye passes a little more closer (107 miles) than at 11 PM. Barbara, the eye should be near you later this morning, so expect bad weather shortly.

Results for San Juan, Puerto Rico (18.45N, 66W):
The approximate Closest Point of Approach (CPA) is located near 19.8N, 65.1W or about 107.6 miles (173.2 km) from your location. The estimated time of when the center of the storm will be at that location is in about 18.7 hours (Monday, August 30 at 11:42PM AST).

It just started raining here in Las Piedras. The eye of Earl appears on the San Juan radar: http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid= ... 1&loop=yes

Thanks for this report glad to see that all is ok Msbee :) :) . Whereas the worst is to come given our Pro Mets of Meteo-France Guadeloupe near 8 am until 12am be safe and dry.
Off topic, and very important info does not want to create any stress already with Earl... but but looks like that 97L should pass Wednesday a little far away to NE of the Leewards islands as a TD of a TS given always given Meteo-France in their latest weather forecast of the 6AM edition. They expect strong showers and tstorms on Guadeloupe. Something to monitor closely as we're entering the super peak of the season and we know how versatile are these features...

The night was pretty calm, lights showers but not frequent isolated ligthnings, lights winds sometimes in gusts nothing bad.
The worst is to come during half an hour in the Northern be vigilant. Watching 97L that's pretty rare that our Pro Mets are bullish on TD or TS chuning near the NE carib so i will follow closely this futur system in case of. Looks like 1995 with Iris, Luis and Marylin??NO   hope not!
