I hardly believe that the NHC waits to upgrade to not have to produce 3 packages! 97L has been in the 70-90% range for about 3 days now and just mustn't meet the criteria for upgrade.
As for the disdain for the word "fish" folks; can't y'all just calm down? Are you opposed to storms NOT hitting the CONUS?
I'm not. I want them ALL to turn away and not only miss the CONUS but also be further away from The Islands too!
Come on folks, This is a public forum so have some more tolerance for differing opinions.
I've seen some real questionable things posted and I usually just ignore them or I report them to the Mods if really outlandish using the button provided.

Heavy thunderstorms beginning to consolidate around the center. Won't be surprised to see an upgrade very soon.

I wonder when the last time was when we had a true Fujiwara Effect in the Atlantic Basin. Anyone know?

Looking at the latest ASCAT, it appears that 97L may finally have a circulation resembling something depression-worthy. Still a bit elongated--it's hard to tell since the west side was cut off... but it almost looks like it's at the end of the cusp stage and almost to the full-blown depression stage. We shall see.

Of course, ASCAT always hits when a circulation is a no-brainer (how many times did it nail Hurricane Danielle dead center?), but when we could really use it, it misses

But I agree, it at least hints at something approaching a depression-worthy circulation now. Assuming it doesn't suffer any setbacks, I think we'll finally get a TD out of this today.

The first interaction Iris had was with Hurricane Humberto then later on Tropical storm Karen.

Interesting as 1995 was a La Nina year as well.

The most recent Fujiwara in the Atlantic that I remember was Lisa-Tropical Disturbance. The NHC didn't really know who ate who but they assumed Lisa ate the disturbance and the result was still being called Lisa.

97L is coming up on Earl but if Earl is beginning its jog to the NW and 97L remains on a mostly W course, then the distance shouldn't continue to close so quickly since they are no longer moving in the same general direction. At least, that makes sense in my head.

Wow, they really are close. Earl is massive compared to this... definitely makes the GFS quite believable right now. I wonder about that nice wave behind it though...

Unless it's able to develop strong convection, I don't expect that it will be upgraded

Does it seem like 97 is gaining a bit of LAT as well?
