OuterBanker wrote:Something always brings me to JB's post. It's basically masochism probably. Just checked his blog and he says that GFS is too far east with Earl.

He also likes the Euro for Fiona which brings a 965 hurricane into NC.

If both come true I'm sure I'll be in a rubber room somewhere.

Sometimes reading his column is like witnessing a car wreck on the highway. You know you shouldn't look, but you just have to.

Lol, no matter where you're from, if JB is right, we'll all be in a rubber room!

Is that shear related to Earl's outflow? Otherwise there could be serious weakening once up around 25N.

IMO it's now a ERC. Theres no mention of Concentric eyewalls and the eye is still 20 miles across. It's possible that some of that dry air from Earl's north got into the center eroding the eyewall.

It's possible that a ERC is starting but for right now theres not much to back that up.

Wobble Wars? Check.

Premature speculation of eyewall replacement cycle? Check.

All that's now left to make this a complete Storm2K hurricane thread is for someone to claim it's gone annular. :)

Older mobile home? If I were you, I'd find a friend or neighbor in a solid house, even within your community.

Just down the road from me is an old plantation with part of the original homestead still standing (barely) It's all grey and leaning and looks like
it will topple over at any minute and yet look at all the storms it has seen and Isabel did not even seem to affect it at all and yet newer brick homes right near it received extensive damage. We made it through Isabel in this trailer and sometimes I think it is because of all the airy spaces we have. :-) But if Earl does come this way we will seek out hopefully better or at least safer accommodations. I find I get faster info here lurking than I do by watching our local news but I do both just to be safe. :-) My prayers to all that is currently going through this and to everyone who is along it's path.

EARL vs. FIONA

#2392 Postby painkillerr » Mon Aug 30, 2010 7:12 pm

Gentlemen:
Look at this comparison between EARL and FIONA when they were both a tropical storm.

They had the same latitude
They had the same barometric pressure
They had the same wind speed

However, EARL was much farther away from the Caribbean and had to travel a very long way west to get here. (Despite the predictions to the contrary by the NHC). We obviously now know that the NHC’s forecast was wrong all along.

We are getting battered by EARL in St. Thomas. Any more wind and rain from FIONA would add insult to injury.

What are the chances for a back to back strike in our area?

Thanks!

It's trending West...I'm getting concerned about the East Coast. This could trigger a completely massive evacuation. If this thing heads to NYC...you are looking at a huge evacuation.
