if earl goes that far west then one of the biggest fears along the east coast might come to light...a major storm up the Chesapeake Bay...half fear it for the destruction/flooding...half want it so that it could help 'clean out the bay' of pollutants from years of mismanagement. Quick review at past history shows not one storm was Cat3 while in the bay...possibly not even Cat2.

If it shifts any more west, you might want to hook up that camper and head to Raleigh!

We would be in deep trouble here in SE VA if that were to happen. Cat 4 would flood the entire region and most of the region would get flooded by just a Cat 1 or 2.

Fiona seems closer to Earl than before... or is that just my imagination? Is there any way to measure the distance / track changes in the distance?

HURAKAN, in the sat. picture you posted it appears that Earl,s eye has filled in some, plus the hurricane is not as symetrical - note how on Earl's western side it has become flatter.

Great quote from Boston.com:
"Kevin Cadima, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Taunton, said the storm is moving north-northwest and is expected to be somewhere west of the Bahamas by early today"

Made me smile.

Fiona is moving at 24 mph compared to Earl's 13 mph, plus, Fiona's convection has increased which makes it look closer to Earl. But they're about 900 miles away

ColinDelia wrote:Morning everyone. Here is a good tool for estimating how close the eye of a storm will pass to your location on the forecast track.

The site is here: http://stormcarib.com/closest.htm

3. Just type in your coordinates from step (1) to get your closest expected distance.

Don't forget a hurricane is not a point and there is potential error in the forecast track.

Great site! I started using it yesterday and it works licke a charm.

Are the models still showing some kind of interaction between the storms? Will they both generate a little shear on the other?

That is my thoughts also. The sooner Earl starts the NW turn the better for the Eastern US.

Season ACE is about 42 already, and this storm likely has another 10 units to contribute. These strong long-tracking storms can be ACE monsters!

What the hell is wrong with Earl? He doesn't look half as impressive as he did last night.

Is it an EWRC, or is he just starting to weaken already?

There is nothing wrong with Earl. EWRC ... pressure up to 935 mb

He'll be back to his former self
