sqrt ((((24-17.4)*60)^2) + (((71.2-60.2)*60)^2)) = 770 nm

They have some of the residual dry air in midst of their pieces, and Earl is slinging more in.

Looks like Earl still has a good TPW infeed.

http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/tropic/real- ... t72hrs.gif

However, going to be moving into minimal CAPE air.

Also will be tracking over a little lower OHC water until about 36 hrs when it picks up the Gulf Stream.

WISHE with the Gulf Stream may give Earl a bit of a kick then.

50 foot waves. That is almost as high as my building.

Yikes.

Oh no I hope not, I had enough flooding when Floyd came thru.

Wow ... you couldn't ask for a better data set than that.

And 50 foot waves! That would not be fun.

It definitely won't hit as directly as Floyd did, but you'll see a good bit of moisture. I think the biggest impacts will be in New England, because although Earl will be weaker, that area isn't as prepared for hurricanes.

While there is a lot of dry air around, the core of the storm looks very well organized and looks improved from yesterday.

On WV imagery you can really see why the NHC mentioned dry air intrusion. Look at it wrapping around. That could stop Earl dead in his tracks.

I mentioned yesterday that I doubted it was a Cat 4. I also said that if the dry air intrudes, it could be reduced all the way down to a Cat 1. Cat 1 is probably to low given the heat content available, probably a Cat 2.

Well....Earl is looking much better then he was a few hours ago...If he can keep this up for a bit he may be able to hit cat4 again sometime today.
