Jack Horkheimer Dies
Jack Horkheimer passed away. He was known as The “Star Hustler”. I used to watch him on TV before it would sign off for the night.

Re: Jack Horkheimer Dies
It's sad, but kind of appropriate that a Jack Horkheimer post occurs on this board: back after Hurricane Andrew, he did an episode pointing out how the sky looked for star gazing because of how the power was out. It's sad to see him go; as a fellow naked-eye astronomer, I appreciate what he did for the field.
RIP, good friend.

He was a local celebrity back in the 1970's and '80's, and remained a popular name in Miami even in his later years, though as others said his 5 minute update was picked up by PBS a number of years ago and he became known nationwide, though as regulars in Coconut Grove we always knew that the Space-Transit Planetarium was just up the road and if we rode our bicycles past there at the right time of day we could always catch his presentation...
Glad I found this topic as it answered a question that's been bothering me for several weeks - I was in a Broward County diner one Saturday morning and heard them announce the passing of someone, and it seemed like it was either Jack or Ron Magill (Metro Zoo), but the restaurant was noisy and couldn't tell for sure, but couldn't find anything on the Internet to verify what I thought I heard, so was left wondering who it was...
Now I know...
Thanks
P.S. May his soul and the souls of the faithfully departed through the mercy of God rest in peace, Amen.
