According to NHC....Jacksonville NC, has a 72% chance of experiencing TS winds. Forcast calls for 20-40mph winds with gusts up to 50. 50% rain chance through today.

Yeah, with Jacksonville being about 40 minutes NE of us here in Wilmington, they are going to get fairly the same weather we are. Nothing this area can't handle. I would be highly surprised if anyone was talking about evacuating that area.

We are getting nothing here at all.

Nothing. At. All.

Here in New Bern area local mets just said we're looking at highest gusts around 50mph. Found this chart on the effects of different wind speeds from 1-75mph. Many probably know this but good info for those like me who are very very amateur! :-)

There may be an inner and outer eyewall. Unless the outer eyewall contracted some before it gets closer to land, it could bring some stronger winds to the coast than you would expect had the storm been the same distance and had one eyewall.

So is it wobbling along a south-to-north axis or is that the turn starting? If so, looks like it'll be east of the next checkpoint - am I seeing that right?

You can definitely see two eyewalls on radar.

Yep. EWRC can be a mixed blessing; slightly weaker winds, but larger area.

I can definitely see an east of due north movement now. That should keep the sustained hurricane force winds east of the Outer Banks.

Things continue to look better for the Outer Banks, but at the same time things are starting to look ominous for Cape Cod.

You must be using a version of the word better that I don't understand.

Well it's far too early to sound the all clear, and some damage is possible/likely, but with the north to just east of north movement now it looks like the hurricane force winds will just miss the Outer Banks. It's far from a done deal still but things certainly look better than early this morning.

An earlier turn would be better for both NC and Cape Cod.
