Does that look like a new center with an eyewall trying to form?

I think it's a dry spot, it has a good structure but not good enough to produce an eye yet.

If that is indeed the case, a Special Advisory may be needed to bump the intensity up quite a bit.

Um... I can't help but notice just how dramatically south of west Igor is moving. Is that... expected?

For clarification, is the possible eye the dry patch on the storm's SW side or on its north side?

There is the small dot in the north side.

I am glad that I am not the only one who seems to notice a possible wsw movement.

Possible eye developing near the northern part of the convection., NHC may be off on intensity a bit IMO.

How many tropical storms have eyes? It looks like it has lost some of its mojo in the last few frames that Ivan has posted. I seriously doubt an eye is forming in a TS that looks like it was just enjoying dmax. By the way, I really am curious, do TS's ever have eyes? Has it ever happened, if so, how often or rare is it?

It's not an eye. The semi-exposed LLC has moved from the eastern part of the convection to the northern side of the convection. Convection diminished in that area, making the center more apparent. I see no south of west motion by the CENTER. It's clearly moving toward the west-northwest. Focus only on the center, not on the center of the blob of convection. The convection rotated south of the center, giving the appearance that Igor tracked south of west.

Well that's a bit concerning. A very obvious WSW movement.

See my post above - you're eyes are being fooled by the shift of the convection from west of the center to south of the center.

The center is fairly easy to see up around 17.2N/36.4W now.

wxman are you sure it's moving west northwest? I mean if you look at that loop that Ivanhater posted up above, you can follow it between the lat bars and it doesn't look like it's gaining any altitude between those bars. I can see your point about it not going west south west, but at least it looks like a due west direction to me...

Clearly its not moving WNW even from a conservative point of view. the curved banding has also been shifting slightly wsw which if it was moving wnw we would see some expansion in that direction but there has been nearly none at all. however it seems the over all motion is W the wsw motion was temporary. that and the center is likely under the convection more than previously thought.. not only that the center could have easily have migrated to the deeper convection.
