Karl didn't reach major hurricane status with al that heat potential in the Caribbean? what's wrong with this season

Seriously, I cannot be more satisfied with this season I think we're learning a lot:
-Alex became the second most intense June hurricane.
-a pretty quicly ramp up in activity after a slow start
- Igor became the strongest hurricane in 3 years
- We already have had 4 majors.
- Alex, Danielle, Earl, Hermine, Igor, Julia and Karl have intensified at a fast or even rapid pace.

And there are even more surpirses in store.

Now let's get back to the jokes

Igor and Julia are pathetic. They can't even become a 5'er if they give it a try. They are losers.

Frank2 wrote:Thanks for the reminder - as a pro met I believed (correctly) that you understood the hard truth, meaning that no landfall is the best kind...

Perhaps 100 years ago that might not mean as much (Florida had a population of only 528,000!), but with today's crowded coastline any landfall will affect a large number of people...

Well, my meter needs a calibration check from time to time (like every day), so that's all right, as long as the others understand that it's only meant in joking...

Thanks,

Frank
Yeah, I don't know how people can't be loving this season - while we've had Alex and Earl make life difficult for people, things have been mostly out to sea - which means the maximum of storm enjoyment with a minimum of danger to people.

Er, uh, I mean, this season totally stinks! Not cat 5s yet, Karl can't make hurricane because the Yucatan's in the way. Way to screw things up, Yucatan.

Okay, as you can see I rarely post, but I want to say that it is threads like this that discourage me from doing so. As far as I can tell this entire 16 page thread is dedicated to belittling posters who felt that we would have a slow hurricane season. Rather than thoughtful discussion this has descended into sophmoric humor at best. I am truly surprised that Storm2K has allowed this to continue. If posters are made to feel that their thoughts and opinions are not welcome why should they post?

This thread was intended to be a joke, there were other threads for serious discussions about the slow start of the season and it's possible evolution, obviously nobody is thinking that the season is over anymore, and most of the opinions on this board are respected.

I understand this was intended as a joke, but if the shoe were one the other foot, and your thoughts and opinions were being held up to ridicule would you be as understanding? I truly feel sorry for those people who were saying that they thought this would be a slow season.

Yeah but to be fair the people who thought this would be a slow season had very little evidence that would be the case...nearly all the proven evidence pointed to a active/hyperactive season...people who go against that are more often then not going to get it wrong...

That being said this thread is just a bit of light relief...rather then taking it to heart just accept it for what it is, a bit of humour...luckily thus far this season hasn't been nearly as bad as it could have been if the upper high centered over Bermda instead of over SE states/Azores...

Fair? If you want to be fair put a stop to it. We all got the joke. Enough already. A bad joke doesn't get better by retelling it over and over.

So far an ideal year. Many storms... and not a single hit on the United States. What else could we ask for? I still would like to see a cat 5 make landfall somewhere (not on the US of course) to make this season truly historic.

about jokes:

Edward de Bono suggests that the mind is a pattern-matching machine, and that it works by recognizing stories and behavior and putting them into familiar patterns. When a familiar connection is disrupted and an alternative unexpected new link is made in the brain via a different route than expected, then laughter occurs as the new connection is made

This was fun for a couple of weeks but not any more. We won't have another topic like this next year....
