*snip* On Wednesday, Sept. 8, Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin issued an expanded, statewide drought watch, asking all state residents to voluntarily conserve water due to continued hot and dry conditions that have persisted all summer, and are taxing reservoir, stream and groundwater levels. *snip*

I saw that in the Philadelphia Inquirer today. They also said that when they issued one for Northern New Jersey earlier this month, they got socked with rain. Hopefully this will help us out down here as well.

Rain is in the forecast this weekend. I hope that it's more than just a few drops. The rain is supposed to be courtesy of Hermine.

We had some nice, soaking rain this morning and a light on and off drizzle for the rest of the day today. :D

I think we had about an hour's worth of light rain early am in Blue Bell, the rest of the day was sunny. Couldn't believe the rain I saw on TV at the eagles game, I looked out the window and it was dry as a bone here!

I'm hoping those thunderstorms do appear tomorrow as the forecast is saying.

Storms are knocking on my door right now. Rain is affecting the Phillies game.

I'm glad that it seems like we're getting into a pattern now where we've received rain at least once a week.

We were under severe thunderstorm warning here in the nation's Capital, but alas not much flowed. Which is good only in the sense of the high winds (60 mph) which were forcast, yet our water tables remain very low. Tried to find a picture of the Potomac River near the Boat House to demonstrate, but no luck. Lots of rocks and low water (still dangerous current). We remain on voluntary water restrictions.

Great pics Cat 5!

WLD - We're under voluntary water restrictions as well. My rain gauge had about .6" of rain this morning.

The storm that hit us was severe and OMG - I was shutting the kitchen window and all of a sudden I heard a loud crackle and a BANG! I thought I was shot. Scared the crap out of me. I don't know what it ended up hitting but that was too close for comfort!

If the models verify that water restriction will be gone come the end of the week.

WOW!

I can't get onto MWS for some reason, but I just watched Accuweather's discussion about a possible Nicole, then Otto and then Paula forming and perhaps keeping the East Coast wet for a while!

We were under a Tornado Watch for a bit today. We've received some very beneficial rain over the past few days and it looks like we're in for a soaker on Thursday from what is now TD 16.

352 AM EDT WED SEP 29 2010

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOUNT HOLLY HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF DELAWARE...NORTHEAST MARYLAND...
NEW JERSEY AND PENNSYLVANIA...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...
IN DELAWARE...DELAWARE BEACHES...INLAND SUSSEX...KENT AND NEW CASTLE. IN NORTHEAST MARYLAND...CAROLINE...CECIL...KENT MD...
QUEEN ANNES AND TALBOT. IN NEW JERSEY...ATLANTIC...ATLANTIC COASTAL CAPE MAY...CAMDEN...CAPE MAY...COASTAL ATLANTIC...
COASTAL OCEAN...CUMBERLAND...EASTERN MONMOUTH...GLOUCESTER...

BURLINGTON...OCEAN...SALEM...SOMERSET...SOUTHEASTERN
BURLINGTON...SUSSEX...WARREN AND WESTERN MONMOUTH. IN PENNSYLVANIA...BERKS...BUCKS...CARBON...CHESTER...DELAWARE...
LEHIGH...MONROE...MONTGOMERY...NORTHAMPTON AND PHILADELPHIA.

* FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING

* LOW PRESSURE WITH TROPICAL CHARACTERISTICS WILL MOVE UP THE EAST
COAST TONIGHT AND THURSDAY. WITH EXTREMELY HIGH MOISTURE
CONTENT...A STRONG STORM INFLOW...AND LOTS OF INSTABILITY...RAIN
BEGINNING TONIGHT WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES LATER TONIGHT AND
ESPECIALLY THURSDAY. THE RAIN SHOULD TAPER OFF THURSDAY NIGHT AS
THE CENTER OF TROPICAL LOW PRESSURE MOVES NORTH OF OUR AREA.
TOTAL PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO AVERAGE 2 TO 4 INCHES...BUT
LOCAL AMOUNTS MAY BE UP TO 6 OR 7 INCHES. ALTHOUGH THE FORECAST
COULD CHANGE
...AT THIS TIME THE GREATEST PRECIPITATION IS
EXPECTED OVER THE NORTHEAST MARYLAND SHORE...EASTERN
PENNSYLVANIA...DELAWARE...AND WESTERN NEW JERSEY. SLIGHTLY
LESSER ALTHOUGH STILL HEAVY AMOUNTS MAY OCCUR CLOSER TO THE NEW
JERSEY COAST.

* RECENT HEAVY RAINS OVER PARTS OF THE DELMARVA PENINSULA AND IN
THE SOUTHERN POCONOS HAVE ELEVATED STREAM LEVELS AND GROUND
MOISTURE TO SOME DEGREE. ALTHOUGH OTHER AREAS EXPERIENCED LESS
RAIN AND SOIL MOISTURE MAY BE LESS...COPIOUS RAIN AND ESPECIALLY
ENHANCED RAIN RATES WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE FLOOD THREAT.
SO...THERE IS A STRONG POTENTIAL FOR PROLONGED HEAVY RAIN WITH
THIS APPROACHING RAIN-MAKER THROUGHOUT OUR AREA...AND THIS MEANS
THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF SERIOUS FLOODING FOR THE REGION
THURSDAY INTO THURSDAY NIGHT
. FLOODING WOULD BE POSSIBLE FIRST
ON THE SMALLER STREAMS AND CREEKS...BUT MAY ALSO BE POSSIBLE
SOMEWHAT LATER FOR SOME OF THE LARGER RIVERS. A FEW EMBEDDED
THUNDERSTORMS COULD ALSO CAUSE LOCALLY HIGHER RAIN AMOUNTS
MAINLY SOUTH OF I-195 IN NEW JERSEY AND THE PENNSYLVANIA
TURNPIKE. ANY THUNDERSTORMS COULD CAUSE FLASH FLOODING...
ESPECIALLY IF THEY TRAIN OVER LOCAL AREAS. LOCALIZED FLASH
FLOODING MAY ALSO BE POSSIBLE IN HILLY AREAS...SUCH AS THE
LEHIGH VALLEY AND SOUTHERN POCONOS AS WELL AS NORTHWESTERN NEW
JERSEY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON CURRENT FORECASTS.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.

Yeah, we'll be watching this one. They're saying generally 3"-4" with some areas getting 5" mostly east of here.

We had 5" with Ivan and we had a mandatory evacuation from my neighborhood. So we'll see.....
