September 21 hurricane history

In terms of fatalities and property damage - the 1938 hurricane is still one of the worst disasters in North American history.

My father lived in New Haven, Connecticutt and recalls this storm and its effect. They had NO IDEA what was going to hit them, nobody was prepared! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD!!! Image

Georges, what a nasty storm! Also worth a mention, Cat 4 Hugo struck South Carolina at midnight local time, so technically was recorded as September 22 (0400z).
