I have a question. The first flight says "invest" and the second flight says "cyclone" What does that mean?

While we are asking questions, I have one of my own. Is this standard procedure to keep preparing recon. to go out to investigate waves like this? It seems to be happening an awful lot this year and I don't remember it being this way last year. Maybe it is because I didn't follow as closely??

It's common to see the Recon prep for a flight even if they don't actually launch for the flight. It's all a part of the routine to schedule a flight to make sure the aircraft and crew are ready to go if needed. :-)

Usually you see the "Invest" on an initial flight and "cyclone" if they suspect that development may occur prior to the scheduled flight. These don't tags don't mean a lot but they can give you a hint on how people are thinking. ;-)

That is why the Tropical Weather Outlooks say, "if necessary." I also don't remember them using these two words for that many years.
