Which Atlantic hurricane season is the most similar to 2010s

#1 Postby HurricaneStriker » Fri Oct 08, 2010 8:02 pm

As 2010 nears and end, with most people looking forward to 2-4 more named systems in the Atlantic, I ask you: Which Atlantic hurricane season was the most similar to this year's?

I decided to compare 2010 in some categories:

ACE: Most similar to 1989.
# of named storms: Near exact with 2001, except 2001 got more hurricanes and this year got more majors.
Impact on the US: Similar to 2002?

I think it's similar to 1998 in the slow start but very active peak of the season and the very active Cape Verde season as well and it's similar to 1995 in the recurvature pattern.

I am not a meteorologist, and any posts made by me are not official forecasts or to be interpreted as being intelligent. These posts are just my opinions and are probably silly opinions.

1950.

All it would take to nearly exact that season is a storm like KING around October 18th. The tracks that year were almost equal with many powerful, yet fishy storms.

By now the number of storms almost even out with 1995:

2010: 19 | 12 | 5
1995: 19 | 11 | 5

Named storms|hurricanes|major hurricanes
