latest computer auction results

#1 Postby coriolis » Wed Dec 08, 2010 6:58 pm

I always get excited when my work auctions off old computers. They’re especially attractive because the IT guys clean up the hardware and software so they’re as good as new. They’re rotating in new machines with core I-7’s which go to the Cadd operators first. I was recently given a Core Duo which seems to meet my needs for office work.

I purchased this for $37.76: Medium white tower, XP w/ SP3, Intel Pentium 4 3.4GHz, 1GB RAM
AGP ATI Radeon X550 Advantage 256 MB video card, Integrated C-Media 3D Audio
Western Digital Raptor HDD 35GB, 1Gbps Integrated NIC, and DVD Drive
Delivered on: 2/15/2005

The hard drives are kind of small because we run off a network at work. I solve that with an external hard drive. This will allow me to retire a 1 GHz Pentium 3 computer.

Our computer "lab" at home now includes a 2.4 GHz P4, a 1.7 GHz P4, a 3.0 GHz P4, and now this one. With 4 teenagers, their friends, my wife and myself, 4 computers just meets the demand.

I really struggled with the ethical dilemma because I had "promised" my wife that the new one would go to her spot, but I really wanted the new one for myself. I finally did the right thing and kept my promise. I'll be happy with second best - at least until the next auction!

Nice work, Coriolis.

You should try to revive your "retired" machine with ubuntu linux. You can breathe new life into the old girl, and have 5 computers. :)
