i don't think anyone in pinellas will freeze tonight. it's still too warm with too much wind with a marine influence. i do think the spine of the county will get at least a light freeze tomorrow night. i suspect the usual radiational cold spots like citrus and hernando counties to the north and highlands, hardee, desoto and glades counties to the south will show some eye popping temps in the upper teens to low 20's tomorrow night.

Upper 20s in Orlando this morning as of 6 AM, look at the uniformity of the temps from N to S across the Peninsula, there is only a 10 deg difference between Tallahassee and Miami, when usually there is at least a 20 deg difference during a cold snap. The winds switched to the right direction for cold air advection to do its magic of bringing the very cold air across the interior sections down to Miami.
This is a very rare event when parts of W coast of FL are warmer than W Palm & Miami metro areas.

Good morning! The low this morning so far at my home location is 23.2 degrees. Just heard on my local news station that the NWS office at the Jacksonville International Airport did also measure a low of 23 degrees. This is a new record low for the date.
The winds have stayed up all night to mix the atmosphere, and that has kept us from getting down into the teens this morning. But, I just checked current obs and very cold temps down state. I saw Vero Beach reporting 27 degrees and Fort Myers at 32 degrees. And Miami. 37 degrees.
The cold dome of High Pressure will be moving eastward to over the SE US today which should allow the winds to finally subside during the day. Expecting max temps today here in Jax to only reach the mid 40s. The coldest temps will occur tonight as winds will be very light in most areas and the temperatures will really bottom out with decent radiational cooling. Tomorrow morning we should see upper teens in areas of North Floriida and mid 20s deep down into the Central ppeninsula and the freeze line dipping down to Alligator Alley corridor. Brrr!!!!!
We will see warmer temps beginning Thursday through Saturday. Then another cold front arrives Sunday with cooler temps. However, the models are showing the next cold spell will not be anything close to this current arctic intrusion we are currently experiencing.

Your NWS office forecast had to have the biggest bust statewide in how far off they were, but is a good bust

Yea, it was a pretty good bust here. I think WPB got down to 33. However, there were a number of reporting stations up around me here in NE Palm Beach County that were reading anywhere from 29.5 to 31.

Melbourne = 29F
Daytona Beach = 24F

Jacksonville (Naval Air Station) = 25F
Jackonville (Intl. Airport) = 20F

Miami = 36F
Fort Myers = 34F
Key West = 50F

While not as cold as originally expected, this was still a significant freeze; especially considering it is still mid December and not January. This also now makes two official freezes at MCO for the month; tying December 2000.

Actually Extremeweatherguy the low temperature in Jacksonville officially was 20 degrees, shattering the old record for this date of 24 degrees set back in 1960.
Currently only 36.7 degrees just before noon.

Yes, you're correct. At the International Airport it was 20F.northjaxpro wrote:Actually Extremeweatherguy the low temperature in Jacksonville officially was 20 degrees, shattering the old record for this date of 24 degrees set back in 1960.

I was using the Navel Air Station data (http://www.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KNIP.html) in my post since it is the first thing to come up when you type "Jacksonville" into the NWS search bar. I will go back and note the 20F reading now too though.

No problem. Yeah, I live only about five miles away from the NWS office at the Jacksonville International Airport. I can confirm what they registered for a morning low as well as my thermometer registered 20.3 degrees at my home location earlier this morning.
It is going to be possibly colder tonight as the winds go very light as High Pressure settles overhead across the region. Sets up to be very good radional cooling night and with dewpoint temps right now in the single digits across North Florida, I think it is very possible to see temperatures get down into the teens across my area of jax and across other colder interior locations of North Florida as well.
