Wow, the models are trending to a much more potent storm getting phased off the GA coast and becoming negative tilted as it races Northward. This could put flurries back into parts of north Florida, especially from Tally eastward as the cold air moves in tonight and moisture gets wrapped back around the low.

I think from Tally westward is a no go however! :(

The hourly forecast says its suppose to 49 degrees as of now in extreme SE mississippi but its only got up to 46 so far. Maybe that's a good sign?

When is the next major model run?

Lots of people affected by this in the I95 Corridor guys, and it all boils down to how far west the low wraps back in. Comments?

The northern half of Alabama/Georgia looks good for the next few hours. After that the low looks to wind up and have left over moisture for eastern GA to the Carolinas. Perhaps flurries into far northern/ne Florida if it winds up quick enough. There's some flurry action back near Memphis. The RUC has snow still around Georgia and Eastern Alabama for about another 5-8 hours.

Ughhhhhh.

Raining here, only snow was about 5 minutes of snowflakes before 11am.

The radar looks optimistic to me still, but the NWS doesn't agree

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BIRMINGHAM AL
108 PM CST SAT DEC 25 2010

.UPDATE...AVIATION AND TODAYS DISCUSSION.

&&

.DISCUSSION...SNOW HAS BEEN MAINLY CONFINED TO AREAS ALONG AND NORTH
OF I-20 TODAY. THE RAIN-SNOW LINE HAS BEEN SLOW TO SHIFT SOUTHWARD
DUE TO THE GULF LOW STILL NOT FAR ENOUGH EAST TO PULL DOWN COLDER
AIR MASS. COLD ADVECTION SHOULD INCREASE THIS AFTERNOON ONCE SURFACE
LOW MOVES EAST OF PANAMA CITY. THERE ARE TWO AREAS OF FORCING
CURRENTLY PRODUCING DIFFERENT TYPES OF PRECIPITATION. THE UPPER
LEVEL LOW ALONG THE GULF COAST IS PRODUCING MODERATE RAINFALL
ACROSS SOUTHEAST ALABAMA. THE UPPPR LOW IS MOVING QUICKLY EASTWARD
AND THE HEAVIER RAIN SHOULD BE OUT OF THIS AREA BY 3 PM. THE
UPPER FRONTOGENETIC FORCING ACROSS NORTH ALABAMA IS WEAKENING
BUT STILL PRODUCING POCKETS OF HEAVIER SNOWFALL EAST AND NORTHEAST
OF BIRMINGHAM. THE BACK OF THE RAIN/SNOW IS RAPIDLY APPROACHING
I-65...AND EXPECT THE SNOW TO TAPER OFF ACROSS EAST ALABAMA BY 3 PM.
IF CURRENT RADAR TRENDS CONTINUE...IT IS LIKELY THAT ALL ADVISORIES
MAY BE CANCELLED BEFORE NEXT FORECAST PACKAGE.

NWS Sterling ripping up what they had and going pretty big...

"EXPECT SNOW TO COVER THE CWA DURING THE DAY ON SUNDAY...WITH A
DRY SLOT PERHAPS MOVING INTO THE CENTRAL SHENANDOAH VALLEY AREA
DURING THE AFTERNOON. WE WILL HAVE A WINTER STORM WARNING IN
EFFECT FOR DC AND THE MARYLAND COUNTIES NEAR/EAST OF INTERSTATE
95 FOR 6 TO 10 INCHES OF SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION. THE REST OF THE
CWA WILL BE UNDER A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY...WITH 3 TO 5 INCHES
ACROSS THE WESTERN BALTIMORE/WASHINGTON SUBURBS AND 1 TO 3 INCHES
SOUTHWEST OF THERE. ITS STILL IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THIS STORM
WILL LIKELY EXHIBIT A TIGHT GRADIENT OF SNOWFALL ACCUMULATION. WE
HAVE PLACED THIS GRADIENT NEAR THE INTERSTATE 95 CORRIDOR RIGHT
NOW. BUT IF THE STORM TRACKS A LITTLE MORE TO THE WEST...THEN
HEAVIER SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS COULD OCCUR TO THE WEST ESPECIALLY
IF THERE ARE BANDING FEATURES TO CONSIDER. ALL INTERESTED
PARTIES NEED TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS TONIGHT AND SUNDAY IN
CASE ANY CHANGES TO ACCUMULATIONS/HEADLINES WOULD BECOME
NECESSARY."

Major flizzard here huge flakes that will probably accumulate after dark. There was a dusting about 10 miles north of here already just a few mins ago.

Congrats on the snow, folks. I certainly know what it feels like after waiting for a long time to see it finally fall. Merry Christmas as well.
