We were supposed to have a hard freeze last night too. Nope...didn't get below 37. Now that is a true bust!

Re: SE TX/SW LA Winter Wx: Good chance of rain tonight

I think someone stole the sun's warmth. It is bright and sunny :sun: here but the temperature is only 42f. Tonight could get very interesting temperature wise with almost perfect radiational cooling conditions. Gonna have to bundle up to go out and celebrate my son's birthday.

I had a low of 29F this morning - pretty chilly but not terrible. I am preparing for a low in the mid 20's tonight and everything is wrapped.

Just walked home from work, 23. Brrrr, but actually pretty nice, for some reason I felt colder walking to work than from work tonight. Guess I'm weird, or was expecting the cold.

It's 24 here and a record low and NO POWER!

Edit to add at 7:43am from KATC facebook page:

KATC-TV 3: Acadiana's Newschannel
A main power line that supplies all electric providers is damaged and is undergoing repair. Planned, rotating, outages, called "shedding" will continue on and off until the main line is repaired. Power providers are telling KATC that sporadic outages will last between 30-60 minutes at a time.

CM looks like the temp actually hit 23 between the top of the hours according to the 3 day history on the NWS site. Looks like we broke the record low not only tied it! What a cold December this has been with just a few brief warm days. Looks like we are up to 9 official freezes for the month plus multiple days with 33-34 lows, probably rival some of the coldest Decembers for this area. At least the power is back on!

I had a low of 24° here. That's way too cold to not have a side dish of snow.

I got lucky with the last freeze - only 28F for a low. Damage seems minimal to plants. I got .72" from the last round of rain on Christmas Eve and it looks like we'll top that this time. It's raining pretty hard here and it's very windy. The low clouds are moving so fast it looks like a tropical system in the summer. I think today will be a good day to try a soup recipe :-)

Definitely a very nice rain this am with some embedded thundershowers. Looks like some stronger storms with possible hail moving in from the SW. Radars are picking up 1" hail in this storm. Garnet this may get you so be wary. Overall a great day to stay in and definitely dreary, but the rain is needed so no complaining here. Looks like the shortwave producing this will clear our are by early evening.

My plans were foiled again..... had to run dad to doctor so got drenched....going out with the girls tonight over in Pearland....I hate driving in the rain....but I hate for it to go away..we need it so much. Hail has missed us but getting a loud thunderstorm right now with healthy showers.
Ohhh that one rattled the house...thank God for wireless keyboard...getting off now anyway

Not a good night to go out in the Houston metro area. Street flooding is being reported in many areas of Houston and the thunderstorms continue to stream in from the SW. We've had at least 2" at the house in the last hour or so and it is still POURING!! It started out as a nice day long type moderate rain that would soak in nicely and now we are in danger of having some damaging flooding if this doesn't stop relatively soon. Feast or famine when it rains in Houston!! AArrgghh!! On top of that thousands are in town for the Texas Bowl tonight. People are actually tailgating in this mess!!

Latest from Jeff:
Urban Flood Advisory for Harris County until 645pm.

Training storms along US 59 producing 1-3 inches of rainfall in a short period of time leading to significant street flooding. Appears a low level convergence boundary has been produced along US 59 which continues to provide a focus for thunderstorm development from Wharton to Downtown Houston to Kingwood. ALERT stations have recorded 2.0-2.85 inches over Keegans and Brays Bayous, lower White Oak, upper Halls in the last 2-3 hours.

Current threat is widespread street flooding in the areas of excessive rainfall....however nearly stalled training within this band does raise concern for more significant flood problems should the train continue for the next 1-2 hours with current rainfall rates especially over urban Harris County.

I was just able to check the gauge and we are at 2.05" here and hopefully at least the training is over.
