That is true, however I was answering for this particular case. What's happening here is the cold air is oozing from the northeast, kind of a backdoor front you'd say, the slower the storm the more time there is for this to happen, only in this case. Which is why areas further northeast/east of the metroplex has the best shot this go round.

It probably will take two things to happen for y'all to get some snow/ice up there ... one, a slower track of the upper low until late Sunday or even early Monday and, two, a track which takes the low over north Texas/Red River which would cool the surface column of air and aid in the right temps for freezing precip.

Based on everything we're seeing and reading in the last 12-18 hours, it certainly is an option on the table. And hey, kudos to you Ntxw for calling it a few days ago! :D These upper lows are pesky in winter and I wouldn't count too much on a forecast until it's about 24-48 hours out.

No doubt Portastorm, not easy at all to figure out these lows! This winter has been a real bugger and I'm about ready to jump at anything with Lucy on standby not too far away...

NOAA is sure being conservative. All 3 of the News channels are showing at least 3 days with highs in the 30s.

NOAA is showing the lowest high at 39, with the rest in the 40s. The coldest temp is going to be 24. If this is the case, I'm a bit disappointed.

But there is still time for hope! Bring on the cold! :cold:

thats hilarious, peeps at weather underground must be expecting some hellacious blue gusts here in DFW.

Make that Collin County except for Frisco, lol, I guess the gusts pass over us and glide down into Plano in a fury.

I've been reading this blog and you guys have really posted some fascinating stuff. Its a good time for me to get involved with all the winter weather we'll see next week  . I know the models are all over the place but how long does everyone think it will take for us to have a good idea of what will happen? I remember last years snow storms were very tricky to forecast let alone predict the impacts and accumulations until the night before.

We won't have good data ingest into the models until tomorrow (when it's predicted to come onshore), that will clarify some things. Then if it does show snow, we will have a better idea of how much if any once it's getting itself together approaching TX Saturday. I've noticed that once a system comes ashore then that's the best time to start a forecast prediction.

It looks like the low is still drifting around offshore with no hurry to go anywhere. Here's hoping it comes ashore 50-100 miles further south than originally forecast. :D

I'm in Sherman, TX about 10 minutes from Oklahoma and about an hour north of DFW and our local TV is forecasting a 40% of snow with light accumulation on Mon and a 20% on Tue.

Definitely looks like it's not to far from taking off. Will be able to tell a lot by tomorrow morning.

I wonder why the FTW NWS has not issued a SWS seeing as offices to the north and west have?

From the FTW office today..

AFTER 12Z SUNDAY...THE UNCERTAINTY IN THE FORECAST INCREASES
SIGNIFICANTLY. VARIOUS SOLUTIONS APPEAR FAVORED BY THE
MODELS...BUT NO TWO MODELS AGREE ON THE PRECIP TYPE AND STRENGTH
OF THE SYSTEM. THE ECMWF AND GFS AGREE ON TIMING BUT NOT ON STRENGTH.
THE ECMWF HAS A STRONGER...COLDER SYSTEM WHICH RESULTS IN WINTER
PRECIP AFTER 18Z SUNDAY. THE GFS IS WARMER AND WEAKER WITH ONLY
RAIN DURING THIS TIME FRAME. THE 12Z CANADIAN AND 12Z NAM HAVE A
MUCH STRONGER...BUT SLOWER SYSTEM. HOWEVER...THE 12Z NAM IS TOO
WARM FOR ANY WINTER PRECIP. THE CANADIAN IS COLD AND STRONG AND
HAS AN AREA OF SNOWFALL IN OUR NORTHEAST ZONES BEGINNING AFTER 18Z
SUNDAY. THE ECMWF...NAM...AND CANADIAN ALL WRAP UP THE
SYSTEM...RESULTING IN PRECIP LINGERING UNTIL AT LEAST EARLY MONDAY
MORNING. ALL THIS TO SAY...THE MODELS HAVE YET TO CONVERGE ON A
SOLUTION...LEADING TO CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY WITH THIS SYSTEM.

Maybe that's why no SWS yet.

I know right? There's been a SWS for north of the red river when this was 7 days out, and in my area there has been nothing at all. Seems like there is rather a lot of uncertainty about this system. I've seen a lot of different forecast.

Well, I guess tomorrow will be the deciding day on what is to come Sunday/Monday. After that the cold comes and well we'll see if we get another big blast later on or not. Still got a good month or so of winter to come for Texas.

Hope is at it's highest point!!!!!!!!!! Or something like that.

00 GFS Showing a slowing in the arrival of the coldest air across North Texas Until Overnight Monday into early Tuesday. Latest run also suggests the moisture and upper level energy will already have moved from the region. This has been a very wavery set of runs today.
