Re: Texas Winter 2010-2011
One of my many concerns I have for tonight/monday/Tuesday is areas in the metroplex have had over 2.5 inches of rain and it may refreeze overnight tonight and that will be potentailly hazordous to travel for tommorow morning's commute.
And im following the potential for light freezing rain and freezing drizzle stay tuned.

Actually, the radar doesn't necessarily detect snow. Many radars use an algorithm to differentiate rain from snow (or sleet) that relates to the nearest reported surface temperature. They assume, for example, that precip falling with a surface temp of, say, 32-33F may be sleet or mixed precip, while precip falling with a surface temp below 32F is snow. This doesn't work very well sometimes, particularly where rain is changing to snow.

Got a little colder than expected here in SE Texas. I'm at 39.4 here in Tomball. Not a whole lot of temperature variance between here and N. Texas at the moment.

38 here in NW Harris County with light precip. Portastorm is mighty close to the Cold Core Upper Low, maybe a surprise ice pellet or two for him.

Temperatures droping elsewhere. Watching radar/temperature trends... Will get back on that

Actually the GFS 2m temps predicted this...I didn't think it was right. Yesterday's 12z GFS.

Yeah looks like the changeover is happening in collin county and the northeastern counties. There's still a lot of heavy precip to our west, if it can happen quickly who knows.
