Re: New Orleans meetup ***UPDATE*** Issues...
Does ANYONE still care about this? Any more delays and this will be in the summertime... in New Orleans. I know nobody wants that. So get moving!

Well here we are again...
Indecision reigns!
Where do YOU want to meet? New Orleans? Gulfport? Biloxi? Mobile? Pensacola? Somewhere else? Respond... We're looking at March or April as the date.

March and NO for me also. There isn't much to do at any of the other sites except casinos on the MS coast.

Re: Announcing the Storm2k meetup in Biloxi on April 16th
Well we had a discussion about it last night and just think it would be better to move it out of New Orleans. Cost was a huge problem and the city is a madhouse in the spring. We have moved it to Biloxi and finalized the date as Saturday April 16th. It is still close to New Orleans if someone wants to go there before or after, and the city has tons of casinos and a beach, and it is a LOT cheaper and less crowded. Found a bunch of hotels around $100 or night or even less.

Y'all enjoy yourselves. I'm out. I don't think an extra hour and half of driving is worth $25/night for a hotel room. But then again I'm not working at all and have some medical bills but would have still found a way to enjoy New Orleans.
Biloxi Room Rates
2 nites @ Hard Rock $800
2 nites @ Beau Rivage $440
2 nites @ Grand Biloxi $400
2 nites @ Best Western $278

I posted three hotels to the FB group that are under $150 a night
http://travelb.priceline.com/hotel/hote ... 2&plf=PCLN
http://travelb.priceline.com/hotel/hote ... 2&plf=PCLN
Those are both on I-10 close together(about 3 miles from the casino and beach), the first one is $75 a night, the other is $101 a night
and one on the beach for $114 a night
http://travelb.priceline.com/hotel/hote ... 2&plf=PCLN
Just posting these as a guide, you don't have to book one. Shop around... but if you're looking on low price and decency of the hotel, these are pretty high on the list.

We'd been having discussions about where/when off and on for a while and decided last night that we really wanted to make a decision and finally set a date/place. I was ok with NOLA, but several s2k'ers wanted to come, but would have had a hard time with NOLA and a few said they simply couldn't afford it. We had always kept the location open for opinions, but NOLA had originally been the chosen place and we were hoping to do it there. The more we looked at hotel costs and other fees, it just seemed like a lot of money to spend for a simple meetup, not to mention eliminating some who wanted to come. We just wanted to have a get together. We're not looking for the greatest tourist attraction. Cindy (sunny) lives in NOLA and has a friend who was trying to get us a deal in a nice hotel. Sure, we found cheap ones, but the reviews were horrible and it was recommended that we not stay in them. The nicer ones in a good location were very expensive. Again, many of us would have done it anyway, saved up, whatever, but that wasn't an option for everyone and people kept suggesting Biloxi and a few other spots. It's also a tourist attraction and it's right on the beach. While it's about an hour farther for me, I voted for it because of the reasons mentioned above. We obviously can't please everyone, but were trying to find something that would work for the majority.
After looking at the hotels available, it will be a huge savings. There are some nice ones that get great reviews for a little over and a little/lot under $100. The one that was recommended in NOLA was $159/night plus parking. Another $20/night I believe, but I'm not certain on that. We found a nice one with excellent reviews for less than half that, and free parking. Staying 2 nights and that's over $200 saved just for the hotel. For about $25 - $30 more per night, there was another one with great reviews right across from the beach and next to the Beau Rivage. Still a big savings and it's in a great location in the middle of everything. There seems to be a lot of choices for where we want to hang out.
As for March or April... I posted on the FB page that March would be very difficult for me because I have so much going on and I was going to suggest April, if that would work for most of us. I know we can't pick a date that will work for everyone, but I started planning this last summer with a few others and we really did want to pick a date that would at least work for all of us who have been working on it since the beginning. And of course we've been asking for input from others to try and find a date that would work for the ones who really want to come. A few replied. Many didn't.
This shouldn't be so difficult and frustrating... we're doing our best to pick a solution that will please most people. Flexibility, when possible, is helpful here.
It's supposed to be fun.
And remember, the goal here is for us all to get together, meet, and have a good time.
And sunny, who lives in NOLA, thinks Biloxi is a good decision. She said NOLA is going to be a madhouse starting at the end of next month. Mardi Gras and then they go into festival season.
