Rob how in the world does snow get in the house.
As you see i'm from louisiana and that sounds crazy to me.

I failed to mention that when I went to start my car this morning I had a full engine compartment full of snow...to the hilt! Very fine, dry snow...so it doesnt take much of a crack and the 65 mph winds to put it in strange places!

Professor situation handled just like I thought it was going to be. Dr. Lyon noticed that I have having a problem with him and the way that he was teaching the classes. He even made reference "I'm a different professor, it takes a while to get used to new professors." I had an AWESOME professor for Chem I and then I ended up with Dr. Lyon for Chem II, which is no more. I am able to switch Chemistry II professors. I just have to make sure I keep up with Calculus, which I unfortunately have at the same time as the Chemistry II class that I will be enrolled in. Both Chem II and Calc are at 1pm, but there are some days that I have Calc and I don't have Chem...so I just have to keep up with the homework in Calc and I HAVE to talk to the (Calc) professor that way she knows my progress.
Here is the schedule for my 1pm classes
Monday: either Chem or Calc (preferably Chem)
Tuesday: Calc (normal Class)
Wednesday: either Chem or Calc. (there is a study group for Calc at 12 noon, so I'll be in that, which will give me a better idea of what topics are being covered.)
Thursday: Calc (normal class)
Friday: Chem (normal class)
Both professors are supporting my actions, so I just have to keep up with my homework.

Today was gorgeous! 32* outside this afternoon...plenty of melting snow! Although the icy situation tomorrow morning will be unavoidable. Currently 22* outside.

FYI...this is what I wrote my current Chemistry II professor. (He is the one that I called a perfectionist dickhead.) I sent this to him via email on Tuesday night, and then talked with him in class on Wednesday.

If you haven't noticed by now, I was quite mad after Discussion on Tuesday. I had studied for 4 days and still received a big fat F on the exam. I do not have a photographic memory nor do I use osmosis to get the Chemistry information across my brain, which means, I am not a student that sleeps with a Chemistry book under my pillow. I do not pick up the information right away, it takes me a while to understand the concepts behind the thought. Could you please stop treating me like a 4.0 student. (which I might add, I am not on the Dean's List.) I have an extremely busy semester (17 credits, 20 hours a week working OFF campus, and Habitat for Humanity) which means study time is hard to come by. I try my hardest and from my understanding, that apparently is not enough.

Here's my point. I would like to switch to Lane's Chem II class. I talked with him yesterday (right after his discussion) and from what he was saying is that he would like to do another "Gentleman's Agreement" for me. You already have one on your belt for this semester, why not add another to supplement my needs. I know we had an exam already, but if this "Gentleman's Agreement" is possible, the exam that I just failed would be disregarded. Since I do have class at that time, he is willing to work something out with Marion (I have Calc II at 1pm) that way I could take both classes simultaneuosly and still get the credits I need. I can not drop Calculus or Chemistry because I need both classes for semesters down the road.<<

I was nice in this email...I was pissed, so this email could have been a heck of a lot worse! He is ok with the switch, so I'm glad that I got my butt out of his class!

Good luck with all the homework. Dang, I'm having enough trouble helping out my 13 year old with his pre-alg homework.

After this weekend's storm, I found out that you can't shovel 3" of sleet that has been sitting overnight. The stuff was like cement. Temps in the mid-40s today should help.

Ugh, there's that familiar sound. Excuse me while I go clean up some cat puke.

Morning everybody!

Gorgeous morning here in PA. The sun is out...and so too, will I be! There arent too many all-sunny days here in winter, so I'll get the car running again and take it to Jiffy-Lube....its been awhile.

With the sun comes some melting and the sun also is getting higher in the sky so at least snows from here on out will be either gone or melt...even on cloudy days and below 32! We should hit 40 today and we also have the advent of flooding. Local mets have said we may see way more rain than anticipated and the streams here south of me in low lying areas will be on the rise.

Back in 1996 we had over 30" on the ground....much like now, and then a day or so of 60+ degrees and heavy rains (4"), and flooding here was devastating. My basement was underwater, and thats not good in winter...that water is COLD....people in the valleys along the rivers and streams were barely able to get out...many houses were destroyed and unlivable again.

We'll see what this year does...we have more snow than 96 up here where I'm at, but other areas have slightly less. Local mets said flooding WILL happen after this weekend since this storm complex is bringing heavy rains and a mixed bag, and alot of snow as well.

All the models have this as a Nor'Easter but with a slight westerly track....meaning it wont dip into the Gulf, go off the Atlantic and up the seaboard.....still this brings tins of moisture just like last weeks huge storm, but a farther west track...California seems to get hammered and then sends it due eastward and taps the GOM and then all hell breaks loose a few days later in the east....watch this storm - it has everything there for Round 2, but again not as 'snowy' this go around and a faster system as I outlined a few days ago in USA Weather where I mentioned about the HPC saying we'll do it again! Looks like we all are right on, and the flooding is there, and up here in the elevations we could get buried in snow yet again, while the valleys get all rain/mix....STAY TUNED!

Houma....for sure, I've seen snow creep into cracks and doors around here, but not like that last storm on the 17th. They didnt label the storm as a 'Blizzard' only because in most areas they didnt see the winds over 35 mph for 3 hours or longer...criteria to make it a true blizzard....we got way more than 3 hours of winds...and way over 35 mph...but thats what kind of weather we get up at 2500 feet and parked on a frozen lake where the winds are relentless in winter from the east!

Shannon...When I took Chem 17 I had this real 'dickhead' as you coined it as well....maybe some of them are, but this guy you couldnt reason with at all. 10 years ago when I took the course, I found out in the syllabus he gave a quiz EVERY DAY! Needless to say, even the brightest kids got by with barely low 70s for the year....I had a 77 and the quizzes were graded on a 1-10 grade system.

He'd give you like 10 questions for a quiz...and hard ones and you miss 4 or dont get all the symbols and elements in the right places, you just got a 9 or a 90....seems like on most quizzes we always got 5s and fell in the middle. Based on outcries from ALL of the students at mid terms, he put a curve on his quizzes and we then got to drop many of the lowest ones and keep the high ones.

Needless to say his tests were at HIS level and accounted for many of the total points for the year. I truly believe that many failed, but with the curves in, almost everyone passed, and he didnt scrutinize tests so closely ever again. His name was Fehlner and he had a balding head and looked like Ben Stein on crack! Yes, he was called many names....especially when kids got their tests back! lmao, Thank God I got that prerequisite for my MET classes DONE and over! He was one miserable man!

Anyhow...I better hop outside and suck in the weather while I can...it goes downhill after tomorrow night (my B'day), so I gotta get things in order and ready for a big party! see you all later....be safe!

Pojo - let me know how the venture into the Air Force realm works out, if they say they will give you the option to do hurricane research down there, etc. I've worked with alot of USAF people before and most of them were great. But you have to look at everything from your perspective; will they allow YOU to do what you want ultimately and to further your own aspirations. If the answer is 'maybe' with the higher likelihoood of you being required to do something else not within your own plan or vision, then you may want to reconsider. Get everything in writing and talk to people already 'in.' Remember that your choices will be limited to whatever they decide, not necessarily what you decide. OTOH it could be a wonderful opportunity with the right doors open. You'll have to do the analysis; good luck kiddo!

I see another one heading down into the South too. Did you see Tom Ridge's press conference yesterday regarding preparation & communication?? Basically what we've been saying all along. You should be all set by now.

Batten down the hatches, hurry up & dig out, another storm's on the way. And Rob, I don't think the duct tape would help with all the snow 'in' your house - you'd need something stronger....like plywood. Isn't it alittle cold inside then? Maybe you could move; that's always fun lol.

I have a hard enough time this semester with Economics. I don't know how I could handle both of those classes. You must be one smart cookie !

Looks like the sun is breaking out here after some dense fog this morning. I see some more rain and possibly snow is on the way. How fun! But I can't complain, seeing how the snow never gets *in* my house unless I track it in.

LOL I know its a comin....I'm actually sick of snow already!! We have a front room and 3 sliding glass doors and also 3 skylights out front facing east...thats our Florida Room. Also storm doors and very high ceilings keeps it cold out there and the cold air and 'weather' contained there. There is a thermostat out there and also heating, but it just goes to the ceiling and in winter we just close the door to the living room so we can stay warm. That front room in winter is like 40-50 degrees...we cant spend time out there...yet, but will in the next month when air temps get into the 50s. I guess that snow has ways of finding small places...that was unreal...a drift IN the house....funny! Round 2 is coming so we're gearing for it....real nice birthday present too.....looks like Saturday/Sunday the day after, we'll get hit again...stay tuned!

It was hard to write the email without crossing the line. I had my work cut out for me. My roommates read the email and were suprised of how diplomatically I handled the situation. Garrett, if you think Chem II and Calc II are bad, that is only 1/2 of my schedule. Environmental Geology and Physics II are my other 2 classes. So that means 17 HARD credits this semester! None of the classes are a walk in the park. :o :o

M2...The Construction Coordinator for Green Bay Habitat was in the USAF for 26 years and he loved it. I talked with him last night at the youth build meeting about the USAF and he was telling me to go for it. He knows my abilities and the trust that other people have in me. When my grandmother stated that she wasn't surprised that I was trying to accomplish this feat, that really struck me, because she knows how hard I work to attain the goals that I set forth for myself.

Rob...last semester I had an awesome professor for Chem I. He gave quizzes in Discussion every Tuesday. He tried to go over as much as he could before the quiz that way you had a good chance of getting a decent grade in his class. In the lectures, he would constantly go over formulas and problems that we were studying at the moment. He would even have examples for us...that way we knew what we were doing and were prepared for the exams.

Isobar...there is times that I have to help my 17 yr old step-sister with her pre-alg homework (math is her worst subject!) I had a horrible teacher for Algebra Freshman year of HS and ever since then had to relearn EVERYTHING that was taught in that class. Talk about crash courses in Algebra! Anyways, when I do help my step-sister, I have to look back to read and visualize the information being covered. Once I realize what is going on, then I understand the concepts. My step-sister just needs a little imput on how to set up the equations...she can solve them, but setting the equations up is another story.

Currently 34* and melting snow! Its really nice outside...no winter jacket for me! Just a fleece. It's about time that my winter jacket can be put away. (can you tell that I'm not a winter person.)

Hello everyone! It's so nice to see all of you here. Thank you to the anonymous soul who told me where the party was

Though I am in Youth Ministry these days, I am very empathetic to pojo and her college experience, as I spent 7 years of my life accumulating about 300 credit hours of academia in the fields of Material Science, Mathematics, Education, and IT. (oh the things we do for silly pieces of paper!)

In my estimation, Calc II was the most rigorous course - things get easier with Calc III and IV (though it's a whole different ballgame if you keep going on to Advanced Calculus and Analysis - a whole semester of work was only 8 pages in the textbook - crazy stuff!).

I remember quite well, in fact, a fellow classmate who wasn't fairing too well in that class as the fall semester came to a close. Knowing that his efforts were futile in passing the final after a quick glance at the problems, he instead used his allotted time to sketch a picture of Santa saying:

Ho! Ho! Ho!
I don't know.

Though I've lost contact with him in the years since, it remains one of my fondest college memories...
