Starting to sound like a broken record (good thing lol) but 12z Euro is the same. Big low US/Canadian border driving down fresh arctic air as a NW system strengthens coming down this week.

Yes! What a big storm this would be. Still way too early to get excited about, though. This week will just crawl by.

The amazing thing is the GFS really shows no let up in winter in sight for the south, continued cool/cold for the next two weeks with only very brief warm ups. We've already basically tied the number of freezes we experienced last winter (considered the coldest since the '90s) and monthly averages have also been lower as well. Quite impressive given the mild winter that WAS expected. Hopefully we can get a shot at snow down here, there's just too much cold air being wasted!

I don't know about 1993, but since it's 2011 there's potential for the big 2011 storm :cheesy:. Keep hoping that I remain a broken record for the next week updating model runs!

Canada remains the coldest place in the northern hemisphere throughout the entire run. There is no shortage of fresh cold air. I just feel that a grand finale is just waiting to happen lol. The great blast predicted earlier this month didn't happen but it's continued in waves colder each round throughout January busting thaw forecasts. I wonder if that's how the great February freezes happened.

MJO is 7/8 and wants to loop right back to where it started, we may be doing this all over again come Feb.

It means a lot of cold Serenata with a deep trough for a storm. GFS ensembles range from 1039 to 1052 entering the US behind the Canadian storm :cold: (GFS had a 1048)

Looks to be mighty cold if this verifies for the Rio Grande Valley Area and maybe snow how fun would that be, a repeat of 2004 Christmas Day

Not in south TX. The elevations do quickly increase once you move west into Mexico though.

^ You shouldn't post the ECMWF charts. I think it would be wise to remove it. Euro does show a significant snow event for Texas, and possibly yet another behind it.
