Once the GFS backs off it is a sure sign the cold will make into Texas.

I have a hard time understanding the Euro maps when it comes to temperatures. What kind of temps is it indicating for the I-10 corridor like Houston and ultimately my area (Lafayette?)

So close I can almost taste it!! :x

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO TX
302 PM CST MON JAN 24 2011

.DISCUSSION...
AN UPPER LEVEL SHORT-WAVE TROUGH AND ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT
APPROACHING FROM THE NORTHWEST WILL AID IN ENHANCING LOW LEVEL
MOISTURE OVERNIGHT. SUBTLE LIFT FROM THIS SYSTEM APPEARS TO BE
ENOUGH TO PRODUCE ISOLATED SPRINKLES ACROSS EASTERN PORTIONS OF
THE CWA. TEMPERATURES ACROSS OUR NORTHEASTERN COUNTIES SUGGEST THE
POTENTIAL FOR A FEW SNOW FLURRIES TO MIX IN WITH THE SPRINKLES.
HOWEVER...A SLIGHTLY DRIER AIRMASS IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE REGION
OF COOLEST TEMPERATURES AND THEREFORE THE CHANCE FOR FLURRIES IS
TOO LOW TO WARRANT EXPLICIT MENTION IN THE FORECAST PACKAGE
.

That Hudson Bay vortex is just so strong. I have a difficult time believing it won't drive the cold air due south. Coupled with a west coast ridge, Euro has the right idea. I'll admit the system is iffy but that's natural this far out.

^ RUC is less snow happy anywhere in Texas tomorrow Portastorm so you won't be alone. My forecast last week for snow this week has been and looks to be a bust :(

Here's hoping our collective "busts" from this past week or two are quickly forgotten next week while we enjoy several days of a nice, wintry blast!

Ouch!

You've hurt my feeling (that's right, I only have one).

Yeah, I admit it is still a longshot. Maybe we can consult gboudx's weather rock for some clarification.

For those of you tired of the busts and hype of winter, only 55 days and 16 hours till the spring equinox! 147 days 18 hours till the summer solstice! 110 degree weather woo!

According to Wxman57, he would really doubt that the NWS is even going to touch this item, this far out.

"by wxman57 » Mon Jan 24, 2011 7:58 am

It'll be another 5-6 days before we have much confidence in next week's weather. This is the time period prior to an event that the models tend to struggle, so I wouldn't put too much stock in any model runs for the next 3-5 days. And don't expect the local NWS office to mention any winter precip next week. They'll only do so when they're confident that such precip is more likely than not, and that's not going to happen this week."

On another station.....

lol - no pain intended. :P Several days of wintry precip... sounds great, but uhh, well, yeah.

Lucy is always sitting there just grinning at you, waiting. You know that.

Unfortunately, my weather rock is only calibrated to work in a very specific, regional area. It can't forecast for Dallas or Ft. Worth, much less Austin. But you're in luck; I'm having a sale on very accurate weather rocks like the one I have. PM for details to purchase. ;)
