What would it take for Texas to experience an extended event. Gulf Low coming onshore? Slow moving disturbance coming from the southwest? It seems the moisture is always lacking when cold air comes down and when we do have moisture we have no cold air. Just curious

Just checking the Euro 2m temps for next week. Even though the Euro is MUCH warmer at 850mb over Texas, it still brings the 25F isotherm nearly to the mid to upper TX coast on Thursday with highs in the mid 30s around Houston on Wednesday.
Now we just need some precipitation.. Here's to hoping the Gulf will cook up something..

Video update from impactweather. Basically says what we already know, models flipping around and we probably won't know until Sunday. But Mr. Hebert gives his opinion at this point in time, but with low confidence.

Better find another hobby, then. Such is life in the weather world. Always filled with twists and turns.

Kinda makes me sad when we are looking forward to the GFS run to give us hope four days out.

I have faith that the models will do the right thing and bring that low right across NTX between DFW and Waco.......

So much for our positively tilted trough ... ugh. Stupid GFS!

Maybe orangeblood is right ... a positive NAO, ridging in the Southeast .... all makes for a stormtrack cutting north of Texas and into the Great Lakes.

No kidding!!
I'm starting to get that sickening feeling ... you know the one you get where you spend days hyped up about model runs and potential winter weather, only to watch the chances slip and fade away? ... or in some cases, get yanked away ... like Lucy pulling the football from Charlie Brown.

It is a little concerning that all of the models have gone one way. Usually there's always a stray one that points the other way, doesn't look good at the moment. Of course they could very well be struggling. I've never seen so much energy/cold air held back and wasted.

So is this what everyone was talking about when there is a period where the models back off, then get back in the game a few days later?? I hope so...

For the sake of winter weather, I hope that's what this is, but it certainly looks horrible right now.

Not a professional MET! My posts are merely speculation.
Re: Texas Winter 2010-2011
Still think we will see freezing precip (hopefully not freezing rain, that would suck). Then it will warm up to 50 or 60 for the Super Bowl.
The meteograms show a 2 degree temp on 2-12. Brrr.

To answer your question, YES.
Last February had us in a snow event 4 days out only to back off till the last 24 hrs when it all came together and we got our foot. This will be pretty much the same way.
