Look at 144. Big change for the Canadian (GEM).

Looks like everyone can blame the NAO for this debacle :grr:. It's preventing any energy from cutting south and east enough to cause any winter weather around here, especially across the southern 2/3rds of Texas.

Now, one thing of interest to me is the energy that hangs back across the southwest later next week. This could be a very good setup for an overrunning event, with weak impulses moving across while cold air is already firmly established across the state. Someone just needs to figure out how we going to get the moisture in here???

Yeah, if that energy in the southwest materializes, I would think that it would take a path a little more south than the Tuesday event.

Lets hope so, from the looks of things we might not until Tuesday evening lol.

lol - thats more in line of what I was thinking. Its becoming more and more apparent that we will be able to make a high confidence forecast within 5 minutes of the event. :)

If the 12z euro doesn't show something promising for us texans, I think I'm going to give up on this storm and quite possibly this winter (mainly due to la nina) can anyone give me a good enough reason to not give up hope yet?

Someone is going to get some serious wrap around precip with this storm. that is why I think the northern 1/2 of north Texas still has a chance of seeing some winter precip on Tuesday.

Success!!!!

I've been trying to read this thread for 3 days now and every time I reach the end of a page there's 3 new pages. Finally found the time to sit down and knock out these last 10 pages lol!

Now where's my snow? ;)

Steve LaNore still on-board. Snippet below.

http://www.examiner.com/weather-in-dall ... ts_article

If you have followed this column, I have spoken for several days of an arctic air mass building over northern Canada. That blob of bitterly cold air (to -50F) has begun to move southward at a rather slow pace. The forward speed of the air mass should increase as the upper steering flow becomes move favorable for a southward push, and surface pressures continue to rise over the region.

A mid-level trough moving over the west coast this weekend will emerge over the southern Rockies and into Texas sometime in the late Monday-Tue time frame. The models have been rather consistent in depicting this solution for several days.

While there have been the usual variations in timing and exact position, the overall pattern favors an ice or snow event at that time.

Stronger highs, lesser cold, so much retrograding. Fishy!

Now I see why phasing is such a headache for the east coast. Everything rides on the interaction of the northern and southern stream.

I’m a school administrator in southwest Oklahoma. I was wondering about next week’s winter storm and the possible effects on this area.

Welcome to the forum. It's a bit too soon to have any confidence in the details for next week. I do think there's a good chance you'll see at least SOME winter precip up there on Tuesday into Wednesday morning. I just don't know whether it will predominantly be freezing rain, sleet, or snow.

Don't believe the hype ... it showed a cutoff low three days ago for early next week and that scenario appears to have vanished. It's hard for me, at least, to get excited about a week from now when things for several days from now still seem confused.

Meanwhile, angry stockholders are lighting up the Portastorm Weather Center switchboard wanting to know why PWC stock is plummeting.
