Well I am getting a wee bit of the winter weather, flurries here in the big city of Hooks, right outside of Texarkana.

On another note, just feel sorry for all those folks that replanted palm trees or all those nurseries that have a bunch still in stock, they might bite the dust again.

Avoid this area.

DALLAS - Nearly 20 semi trucks got stuck in the same spot on icy Interstate 35 on Tuesday, shutting down the roadway.

Several of the vehicles had jackknifed, while others were simply stuck on the slick road or blocked by incapacitated big rigs ahead of them.

The massive backup happened sometime before 10 a.m. in both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-35 at Pleasant Run, near the Desoto/Lancaster line. Semi also clogged teh service roads flanking the freeway.

Also anyone with plans to the fair park events for superbowl this week.

DALLAS - A giant tent at Fair Park meant to house Super Bowl -related events has collapsed because of today's winter storm.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BROWNSVILLE TX
125 PM CST TUE FEB 1 2011

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH 6AM THURSDAY/... MAINTAINED THE
TRENDS OF THE INHERITED FORECAST FOR THE MOST PART. A WIND
ADVISORY WILL EXPIRE AT 3 PM THIS AFTERNOON...WITH DIMINISHING
NORTH WINDS TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY. ISSUED A WIND CHILL WARNING FOR
THE ENTIRE AREA TONIGHT AS WINDS WILL BE JUST HIGH ENOUGH TO
PLUMMET WIND CHILL VALUES TO 20 DEGREES AND BELOW...AND IN SOME
CASE INTO THE LOWER TEENS. ALL INDICATIONS ARE THAT WEDNESDAY
NIGHT WILL BE AS COLD IF NOT COLDER THAN TONIGHT...AND A WIND
CHILL WATCH AS WELL AS FREEZE WATCHES ARE IN EFFECT FOR WEDNESDAY
NIGHT.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...AREA REMAINS CAUGHT BETWEEN
POLAR DOME OF HIGH PRESSURE CENTERED JUST TO THE NORTH AND COASTAL
TROUGH JUST OFFSHORE. COLD AIR WILL REMAIN IN PLACE FORE ALL OF
SOUTH TEXAS...WITH HIGHS THURSDAY STRUGGLING TO REACH 40
DEGREES...EVEN AT THE BEACHES OF SOUTH PADRE ISLAND. DRY LAYER AT
THE SFC WILL HELP TO INHIBIT PRECIPITATION DURING THE DAYTIME
HOURS...BUT AREAS OF VIRGA ARE EXPECTED WITH MOISTURE POOL TRAPPED
ALOFT. MAIN FORECAST THREAT IS THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING
AND THE THREAT FOR WINTRY NON-LIQUID PRECIPITATION. A VIGOROUS
MIDLEVEL POSITIVELY-TILTED TROUGH WILL CROSS TEXAS THURSDAY
NIGHT. AROUND THE SOUTHEASTERN SIDE OF THIS WILL BE A STRONG JET
STREAK JUST OFF TO THE NORTH. DEEP SOUTH TEXAS WILL BE IN THE
RIGHT REAR QUADRANT JUST BEFORE DAWN FRIDAY MORNING. AROUND
H8...SOME SLIGHT INCREASES IN MOISTURE WILL BE NOTED...WHICH
SHOULD AID IN ALLOWING PRECIPITATION TO REACH THE GROUND. MODEL
SOUNDINGS SHOULD THAT AREAS NEAR THE COAST WILL HAVE A SMALL LAYER
OF ABOVE FREEZING TEMPERATURES ALOFT...WITH A MODEST LAYER OF
FREEZING TEMPS AT THE SFC. THIS WOULD BRING LIKELY SLEET WITH A
LITTLE FREEZING RAIN POSSIBLE. AREAS BETWEEN US 281 AND US 77 WILL
HAVE A SMALLER LAYER ALOFT ABOVE FREEZING AND A LARGER LAYER BELOW
FREEZING AT THE SFC...BRINGING SIGNIFICANT SLEET. MOISTURE ALOFT
WILL HAVE A TOUGH TIME REACHING FURTHER INLAND...AND TEMPS ALOFT
WILL REMAIN BELOW FREEZING SFC AND ALOFT...SO AREAS WEST OF 281
WILL SEE SMALLER CHANCES OF MAINLY LIGHT SNOW FLURRIES. ALL
PRECIPITATION WILL TRANSITION BACK TO LIQUID RAINFALL BY MIDMORNING
FRIDAY...AND WILL DECREASE DURING THE EARLY AFTERNOON AS THE
DYNAMICS ALOFT AND THE COASTAL TROUGH DEPART. MODERATING TEMPS FOR
THE WEEKEND AS THE HIGH PRESSURE DOME MOVES EAST AND ONSHORE FLOW
GRADUALLY RETURNS. LONGER RANGE MODELS ARE INDICATING THAT ANOTHER
POLAR SURGE MAY ARRIVE FOR TEXAS EARLY NEXT WEEK...WITH ANOTHER
ROUND OF COLDER WEATHER.

Temperature Comparisons for Superbowl fans:
Dallas - |011853|19.9F|10.9F|67.5%|330|022|037|30.14|999|OVC|Light Snow

Green Bay - |011853|19.9F|14.0F|77.3%|030|019|025|30.40|999|OVC|Light Snow

Pittsburgh - |011903|35.0F|32.0F|86.6%|360|005|000|29.99|999|OVC|Light Drizzle , Mist

Looks like Dallas pulled out the red carpet to make both teams feel like they are at home. Kind of hot at Pittsburgh, though.

Just got off the phone with my friend who lives 30 miles south of the Canadian border in North Dakota. He reported that the air temp is -20F with a windchill of -40F. He said that while driving around that semi trucks exhaust would freeze in mid air and look like spider webs floating around. He said it's the coldest air that have had all winter so far. That's bone breaking cold IMO. Guess things could be worse here. :froze:

What kind of temps are we looking at starting next week? Any chance of snow? I am starting to see some chatter about it.

How come these brief periods of snowfall aren't showing up on radar? I mean it's not heavy snow but it's a lot more than just flurries.

Got about an inch of sleet on the grassy areas here. The road is mainly a sheet of ice now. Still some flurries flying.

I have a friend in SW OK, and she still has power. I'm glad for her because she's home with 3 kids while her husband is deployed. Meanwhile, we've been having some lovely flurry action here. Looks very nice.
