#1 Postby Pburgh » Wed Feb 02, 2011 9:55 am

Now listen up everyone.

Spring is just around the corner!!!!!

Punxatawney Phil said so........our Pennsylvania Groundhog DID NOT see his shadow.

.............and I bet you thought I had nothing to contribute to a weather site. LOL

And just after I heard his proclamation on the radio this morning, I pulled into work's parking lot to see a double rainbow! Early spring means early golf season and improving trail conditions to hike!

I just like to see the ruts that can break ankles and legs without stepping in them. No, I dont have anything broken, but I found a covered hole that I feel in last weekend.

Here in south louisiana we don't have a groundhog on groundhog day. We have a big ugly nutria rat!!!!

Cajun Groundhog Day

New Iberia celebrated the 14th annual "Cajun Groundhog Day."

"He is the only nutria that can accurately forecast the weather for our town,"said mayor of New Iberia Hilda Curry.
Pierre C. Shaddeaux may look like an ordinary nutria rat, but that furry guy has an important job.
While most people rely on Punxsutawney Phil's weather prognostication-- this cajun groundhog predicts if Acadiana will have a long spring or early start to summer.
"We don't want some Yankee groundhog telling us about the weather in Louisiana,"said Willy Chapman.
Despite the frigid weather, adults and children gathered at Bouligny Plaza to see his prediction.
Pierre C. Shaddeaux lived up to his name. He saw his shadow so we are in store for an early return of summer.

If there was a groundhog in FL today, he saw his shadow for sure.

I heard that and thought if Punxatawney Phil did see his shadow during that monster storm, it would just totally blow away all of his credibility!

I hope he's right.

Well, to add in a bit of an oddity, I just watched a flock of Canadian Geese fly over. It is snowing pretty good outside (got a light dusting covering the sidewalks already), and we are supposed to get 4 to 8 inches tonight (Ft. Drum, NY). Out of curiosity, what are geese doing here in the beginning of Feb??? I thought they all flew south for the winter? There were a good 15 or 20 geese in the flock.

I heard some more fly over today around the same time, but I wasn't near the window.

Well, I finally caught those pesky geese with my camera, and there were just a *little* bit more than 15 to 20:
