Can someone please explain to me what the Weather Service is seeing to justify the forecast for my area next week?

Monday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 36. North northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35.

Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 39.

IAH 0.10 (combo of mixing)
DFW 0.03
SAT 0.02
CLL 0.18 all snow
BPT 0.08 (looks like rain/mix)

Looks a bit more widespread.

I think the area from Conroe over to Georgetown and up to Tyler will be the big winners from this event. Probably widespread 2-3 inches up to 4 common in that area. Less qpf further north but higher ratios so this becomes a fairly widespread area of snowfall.

It's a little to early for the NWS to go ahead and forecast snow as their confidence usually increases as we near the "event".

So is there generally less confidence today about a widespread snow event than yesterday? It seems to be fairly lukewarm in here about snow, based on current atmospheric conditions, but at the same time, people could just be playing the waiting game. I'm a little bit worried about the lack of moisture back to the SW. Is this something that will continue to develop over the course of the day? EWX still seems to be on board, as Portastorm said, so that's something.

I mean, I just think ...sheesh...if they won't even put the opportunity of the even in the forecast sheesh.

I think the chance went up a little bit during the day today. Of course I'm not a pro, but I could see Austin getting 2 inches or so.

Could this be like the Valentine's 2004 Austin snowstorm? I think we got 2 inches of snow that night.

The good thing is that it's still in the 6-7 day range and a lot can change between now and then. There's going to be a quick hitting vigorous winter storm once again but it's too far out to know the exact track.

Well since schools close...hee hee...

I am betting a major bustola tomorrow. I just don't like what I am seeing on the radar trends...I hope I am wrong, but I think the NAM/GFS solution is correct, with less precipitation.

If ukmet right then we get 2.0" in NW Houston.

This Afternoon: Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tonight: New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Friday: New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Interesting enough, this is only a winter weather advisory. I find this odd because they are forecasting 2-5" of snow for me (East Texas). I guess the winter storm warning is for those further south who also have the threat for ice!
