Finally happening. It's popping up all over the place now! Hopefully it spreads even more. I'm starting not to trust the HRRR model as much. It's still showing 4-5 inch amounts around College Station.

But based on what's happening now and what it shows it doesn't look like it has things developing in the right place.

0z NAM says look out North Texas. Has a good band moving up from the south at hr 6. I think it's showing 3+ in our southern counties. Hard to tell with stuff already on the ground depicted on twisterdata.

Edit: Southern and Eastern zones. Deformation band is better looking than previous runs.

Edit 2: 3+ region wide with locally higher.

They just shut down 2 major bridges in the Beaumont area. KFDM mentioned ice forming on bridges and overpasses earlier. I wonder why they weren't already shut down. No word if there were injuries.

Ice prompting closure of Rainbow, Veterans Memorial Bridges

SOUTHEAST TEXAS - 7 p.m. - The Texas Department of Public Safety is closing the Rainbow and Veterans Memorial Bridges because of ice, according to information KFDM News has received from Sgt. Chuck Havard.

The DPS was working an accident with one minor injury at the site and troopers were closing the bridges at about 7 p.m. Thursday to prevent further accidents.

The bridges will remain closed until further notice.

And from KBMT. Stay home, people! I know, some people have to be out for whatever reason, but goodness!

Ice causes accidents, bridge closings

Posted: Feb 03, 2011 7:30 PM CST
Updated: Feb 03, 2011 7:30 PM CST

Ice forming on roadways has already cause several major accidents.

In south Jefferson County, crews are working a 4-car pile up on top of overpass between Twin City Highway and Highway 73.

Also, a car was reported to have gone off the highway at the 32nd Street overpass on Highway 73.

The conditions of those involved in those accidents are not known at this time.

TxDot says both Rainbow & Veterans Memorial Bridges are closed after a 2-car accident was caused by ice, but will consider reopening those bridges if conditions improve.

12News HD has a crew on the scene and will have more at ten.

*edit 8:45pm - Police say there have been lots of reports of single car and minor accidents.

I'm not surprised they shut down the Rainbow Bridge. One of the final tests back when I took drivers ed was surviving the dreaded Rainbow Bridge.

All. I apologize. I was the one that made the comment earlier about "moisture pooling" ahead of the ULL. I saw something in water vapor imagery & noticed that no one else had mentioned it yet so I posted it. It took me so long to comment on that because I've been extremely busy cleaning up my apartment. My upstairs neighbor's kitchen pipe burst this morning so we had some water damage. I believe that the current radar returns speak for themselves when asking me about what I meant by "moisture pooling."

However, if you want me to explain what I saw, let me know & I'll spill the beans.

Burnet, TX (NW of Austin): Unknown Precip 20 °F(-7 °C)

Looks like something might be trying to fall in the Georgetown area. Not sure if it is virga.

Waco/Killeen is next in line of fire for that band.

If it means that it is going to snow to the north\northwest of Houston then by all means please spill away.

I am on the north side of Austin right at the edge of the returns shown on radar, but am seeing nothing at the surface yet.

I just stepped outside. I can confirm that primarily snow, mixed with some sleet is falling here. It hasn't started to accumulate yet as the column is being moistened but it is already reaching the ground. It is light currently but heavy enough so that you don't have to look for it. The "moisture pool" is doing it's magic.
