TxDOT is now shutting down all highways in San Antonio as the ice builds up.

Multiple accident reports due to icy roadways in Travis and Bastrop counties.

I wonder if the NWS expected it to be very light at first or if they got kind of fooled with us. Hopefully more continues to build so we'll build up a nice 2 inches or so.

Wow, look at all that yellow on the returns once it gets over Dallas.

Quite impressive, what moisture is causing it? Does real cold air like we have tend to make it snow more?

We have a fatality in Jefferson County. :(
We wanted snow, not ice.

Ice on road factor in fatal accident

February 03, 2011 10:00 PM

Icy conditions were a factor in a fatal accident Thursday night in Port Arthur.

The accident happened about 8pm at Twin City Highway and Highway 136.

Investigators say several vehicles collided due to ice on the road.

A 43-year-old woman from Bridge City died in the wreck.

The victim's name has not yet been released.

Where about in Richardson are you? I'm just east of UTD in the Canyon Creek neighborhood. Seems like it will take some time for the air to saturate. The closest reporting station by me is reporting 23.7 degrees with a dewpoint of 7. 49% humidity. That seems awfully dry for a sky that is expected to produce snow in the next hour.

Difficult thing to hear Southerngale. People should really head the warnings.

Guys, use the base radar function instead of composite since the air is not moist yet, it's better for depicting events like this since the air is so dry.

Not sure the answer to your question, but that image makes it look like Ft. Worth may see more snow than Dallas. That sure wasn't progged as recently as a few hours ago.

Yeah you can tell it's starting to moist up though in South Dallas. Precip is actually making it in here now. Somewhere in Kaufman county might be seeing some pretty nice snow right now.

If totals are going up then why wouldnt the NWS issue a WSW for the DFW area?

Has to be above 4 inches for that I believe. They're calling for 1-3.

Wow I am surprised to hear of the fatal wreck in Port Arthur. I am working at one of the refineries in town and I just looked outside, and it is dry as a bone. There was some moisture on the road when I drove in earlier (around 7pm) but it wasn't frozen. Must have been an overpass that got slick.

Tragic - everyone needs to slow down on the roads.
